Why?
What religion? (Yours?)

If no, why should we keep the word "god" on our money and let it make decisions (stem cell research)?

Define religion...if by it you mean catholicism, lutheranism, etc...then no. But if you mean declaring the Bible to be divinely inspired and a key foundation of our government and laws, and publically acknowledging God's blessings and divine providence over our traditionally Christian nation, then aboslutely. We always have until recently and God has greatly blessed us. Why stop now?

As our first President, George Washington said in his Farewell Address to the United States in 1796, “It is impossible to govern the world without God and the Bible. Of all the dispositions and habits which lead to political prosperity, Religion and morality are indispensable supports. In vain would that man claim the tribute of Patriotism, who should labor to subvert these great Pillars of human happiness, these firmest props of the duties of Men and citizens…And let us with caution indulge the supposition that morality can be maintained without religion.”

Apparently it already does...didn't Dubya claim to be doing "God's work" at some meeting with leaders from the Middle East?

However, government mixing with religion tends to lead to concepts such as the Taliban and more fundamentalists (example of this would be the history of Northern Ireland).

Not a good idea, especially in a democratic society.

There is good reason why government and religion should not mix. For one, there are so many different religions. How could the government choose? Most of all...history speaks...the last times government mixed thousands of people died. Remember Hitler's acts upon Jews and Gypsies? ...Or how about the "Burning times"? I say...keep the government separate from religion.

Please don't forget all those who died because they believed something different.

NO! What makes our country great to me is the separation of church and state. The current administration is way too close to incorporating religion right now.

I want the freedom to practice what I want and how I want, even if it means not practicing anything.

no,religion is personal and could cause problems if incorporated because people of different faiths would be at each others throats like now in the world

Nope, separate is the way religion and government should be. That's why we have complete religious freedom in this country.

No, that would negate one of the earliest principals of our Government, and God knows(expression) we don't need anymore corruptions in the US Government.

No- why should one religion get all the attention and not another?

2007-08-08 11:13:41 · answer #9 · answered by Anonymous · 1 1

Of course not.

Our Country was founded on separation of Church & State.

Why would we screw that up....and that goes for any religion or faith.
