They are all doing much better- because all the regulars still go and sit outside and puff merrily away polluting the air and the pu doorways. The people who used to stay away because they couldn't breathe are crowding the inside- our local is much busier and you have to go much earlier to get a seat if you want a meal- its fantastic.

Believe it or not, only 15% of the population are regular smokers. With the recent boom in food pubs and interest in food, most are speculating boom time for pubs and bars that serve food as the majority of non-smokers prefer to eat in a smoke free environment (source: research by Wetherspoons pub chain).

As some of the other guys mention here, anyone that thinks those 15% of smokers are going to ditch their social lives and friends just because they can't light up is misguided!

My personal view is that the trade will benefit, as will the majority of customers....oh yes, and the environment, as we won't have to shower and run a clothes wash every time we go to the pub, because we come back smelling like an ash tray (sorry smokers, it's true!)

The ban won't affect the pub trade until the Autumn/Winter time when its too cold to smoke outside. I believe the hotel trade will either continue to provide smoking or nonsmoking rooms, or one chain will provide smoking rooms at a premium and take all the money.

First pub recenlty has gone out of business since ban, they will feel it more in winter when smokers wont be prepared to go outside in rain. The pubs stink of beer stains and odour now so they trialing air fresheners. I would say in general hotels and pubs have had at least a 10% knock in business

I'm not a smoker, but I don't think it has affect. People still smoke at the casinos.. I don't know about the hotels or pub trade.

As a non-smoker, I will now actually eat a meal in a UK pub. Funny how they started in the ban in the summer when the smokers don't mind so much stepping outside for a smoke. Then slowly the weather will turn...he he.
