My 5 yr. old female Yorkie started slowing down in the past few months. She can't jump up on anything anymore. Her gait started to get wobbly because her legs are shaky. When she goes potty she can't bend them to a good stance because they buckle on her. My vet gave her cortisone but it hasn't helped. The specialist wants to do a cat scan for 1500.00 but we can't afford that. He says it's definitely in her brain after we spent $850 on xrays, ultrasound, blood tests to rule everything else out. If we can't find her some alternative help than he said she'll have to be put down. They think its either brain tumor or enciphilitis or some type of viral incurable infection in her brain. She only weighs 6 lbs. and I can't see subjecting her to anymore IV's or a spinal tap as was suggested. If anyone can help with info of any kind I'd appreciate it. She is like our baby and we love her so very much. If necessary we will put her down to end her suffering. She's not in any pain.

I am so sorry for your darlings illness. I know what you are going through. Sounds like you have done what is needed up to where the budget can go.
1) call some Yorkie organization,...sometimes they have resources to help
2) do some fund raisers. I've seen tables set up in front of businesses with a drawing for a prize (donated) with funds going toward the illness.

I know you will do what is best for her. I know, I kept my little poodle alive for 2 years on drugs because I could not stand the thought of being without her.
But now I purchase dog insurance and that has saved me a fortune PetsMart (Banfields) has a great insurance program.

You have a breed that has little in the way of reserves so diarrhea is very serious and you need to get your dog to the vet asap. This is not something to mess around with at home as you will only delay correct treatment and can actually make the problem worse. This might not be a serious problem, but since he is so small, it is something you do need to get medical treatment for.

I am really sorry for her. Have you ever discussed the possibility of acupuncture or any other alternative treatment with your vet? If her illness is not a some kind of infection may be it works. Just an idea.
