Distance Education is a broad term that includes all forms of educational delivery that happen off campus. It could be correspondence courses, online courses, radio lectures, TV/video courses, etc...

A correspondence course is one which is done via mail and post. You study the material and submit your assignments by letter.

Online/web delivery has come to almost completely replace courses by mail.
