My sister owns both a diabetic, and a FeLV cat and a few other cats. The Diabetic and FeLV are kept in seperate rooms however the diabetic has some interaction with one of her other cats. The diabetic must travel with her to my house when she comes to visit. Is this putting my cat at risk?

I am not concerned about the diabetes...that is just the reason the cat needs to come out with her when she visits. It is the FeLV that concerns me.....

Diabetes is not contageous so that won't affect your cat. But my bigger concern is that FeLV cat because it can spread it's germs to the diabetic cat she is bringing and then it can carry those germs to your cat. Is your cat vaccinated against FeLV? If not, then I suggest you get it vaccinated and also that you ask your sister to keep her cat she is bringing in a cage the entire time it is at your home, and keep the cage away from your cat. I'm talking about a run around cage like the two decker ferret/kitten cages or a large dog cage that can contain a liter box and food and water. If she won't bring one, then I would purchase one myself and request her cat be kept in it or then she can't bring the cat. You surely do not need a sick kitty yourself if the FeLV spreads. Good luck. I hope her diabetic cat is vaccinated against the disease but even if it is, it can still carry the germ to your cat even if it doesn't get the diesease itself. Check with your vet very soon on that.

The issue of the cat's diabetes should have no bearing on your cat's health. Diabetes is not contagious!
But-
When you mean 'separate rooms' for the cat in question and the FeLV cat, do you mean separate from each other-or are they kept together?
Because if the cats have played roughly, and the FeLV cat has scratched the diabetic one as to draw blood, there CAN be danger.
Is the virus active in the FeLV cat? If so, try and keep your cats separate. Or at least watch them. Your sister should know of the danger. Try and see if you can get some information from your vet-preferably, published literature-and give it to your sister, too. It could help improve the quality AND quantity of life for all of her cats-and those that come in contact with them.

Your cat can not catch Diabetes from another cat just as you can't catch it from another human
However, have you cat vaccinated against the FeLV. It can be spread easily from one cat to another. And since the diabetic cat already has a lowered immune system it could pass the disease from the one cat to yours.

Yes, but very slightly. But, to be on the safe side I wouldn't let them share food/water bowls or share litter boxes. Keep in separate rooms to be safe.
I would have the cat tested to make sure he's free of the disease before he comes to your house.
The poster isn't worried about diabetes she's worried about the cat with FeLV.

A Cat that is Diabetic gets it from one of the Parents. If the Mother cat is Diabetic then all or one could get it and if the Father cat has it all or one of the kittens could get it. It is Hereditary. A cat that is Diabetic can not give it to another cat that does not have it. It is not contagious,it is Hereditary.
My cat was diabetic and she got it from the Father or the Mother cat. She did not catch it from another cat. It was Hereditay from her family.

As long as your cat is current on shots you should be OK. Your best option would be to lock your cat up when hers is there just to make sure there isn't a problem.
