If you don't believe God exists why can't you leave it at that? I don't believe in Santa clause and I don't waste my time on forums arguing his exisitence. What drives you to spend so much of your time arguing about nothing? You all just seem very foolish to me. Most of you seem intelligent have you nothing better to do than argue with believers? Believers believe God exists and it becomes their religion. You don't believe. So why when you denounce the evils of religion do you go and create a religion out of anti religion. All of you athiests that actively post on R&S are as bad or worst then the believers because you spend your time arguing about the exsistence of nothing!

See I try to pass on my beliefs because I believe in the exsistence of something. You all believe in nothing. I have a driving force. From your point of view we are all idiots. Why then do you take so much time telling us that? If we want to believe let us. We are all going to die and just rot according to you so why not let us die peacfully thinking we are going to heaven or going to get our virgins etc?

Also I'm canadian I don't have a president or a constitution. In modern western society let's compare murders commited by religious people for religios reasons to plain ole people wanting to kill one another. What secular people kill more then religious people wow!

I disagree with you.
Atheists raise good points and many times i find myself studying the bible to answer their questions if not to them to myself.
Maybe they ask because they too are seeking and want logical reasons or maybe they have a bone to pick because they have been hurt by christian. Lets face it not everyone claiming to be christian is a Christian or acts like one.
Christian or non christian every one has a voice and should be respected

Because arguing on a forum about the (non-)existence of Santa would involve arguing with *children* - no room for good debate there. But I come here in the hope of having an intelligent discussion about religion; just because I don't believe it doesn't mean I'm not interested.

If the very idea of belief in God didn't get people killed en masse every day I would say have at it. Believe in the Great Pumpkin for all I care. The problem is, living in a world where faith is taught as a virtue and religion is not to be criticized is going to destroy all that we know. Every major war on earth today boils down to a "My God is better than your God" measuring contest. Pull belief in Gods out of the Middle East and the conflict goes away. Pull belief in God out of America and we can all start living as equals and solve the real problems instead of quibbling over gay marriage, abortion, and creationism. Belief in God is destroying our world. Christians, Jews, and Muslims are fueling a march to Armageddon and dragging the rest of us down with them. There is currently religious based genocide in Darfur, Pakistan and India have nukes pointed at each other, Iran is gunning for Israel, and suicide bombers decimate the streets of Iraq. Do we need to have these things in the streets of Chicago or New York before we pay attention to the cause? The cause of all of this crap is faith in beings not one person has real evidence for. Therefore, it is a moral imperative to eradicate faith through education and knowledge. The pen can be mightier that the sword if enough of us pick it up and speak out.
Update:On your "Secular people kill more than religious" comment I have to call BS. In American prisons less than one percent of prisoners are non-believers. The rest are all some form of religion with the vast majority being Christian. In American society non-believers number around 15% of the overall population. One can definitively extrapolate that non-believers are far less likely to commit crimes that get them put in prison. Put that in your pipe and smoke it.

It is wrong to force ones religion onto other people who do not want it. That is why we are here; that is why we voice our opinions the way we do.
I am certain that you would not like it for me to come knocking on your door and telling you about Atheism.
Therefore if you do not like it, how do you think we feel?
Furthermore, there are many different religions and it is wrong for a school to select one religion over another and have it taught in schools. That is another thing that we are against. I am certain that if you were a member of one religion and the school your child attends were to teach a different religion you would be opposed to it.

Ask yourself a very simple question.Would you be upset if people tried to teach Santa Claus as FACT in the classroom?Another one..would you be upset if there was a movement to put a monument in the courtroom with Santa's image and the words"He's gonna find out who's naughty or nice"?There is your answer.Santa Clausians don't intrude on your rights, christians do.If they taught Santa as FACT,If you WEREN'T actively fighting the myth, you would be a fruitcake. There ya go
dude, you pretty much lost ANY credibility with the "I am from Canada,I don't have a constitution"remark. Please, please, just delete your own acct. You are embarrassingly ignorant. If you don't know Canada has a constitution,er,shut up,grown ups are talking

Perhaps atheists are just bothered by the illogic of organized (as well as disorganized) religion and would like everyone to see the light. Sort of the same thing happens when religious folk try to push their beliefs on others, thinking the non-religious are fools.
It is just different sides of the same coin.

Because we live in a society of believers, who spend their time trying to tell us we are evil, have no purpose, are going to hell, are the cause of morale decline, etc. Personally I feel I must defend my beliefs against religious bias. Yet unlike some believers I respect your right to believe what ever you want. Just don't vilify me because what I don't believe.

I'm an atheist. However, I am not militant.
But, I do believe in people's right to free speech. Why do you have such a problem with atheists talking about religion?
To us, it's just an intellectual challenge and exercise, picking out the flaws in your belief system. Philosophical debate, pure and simple. People have been doing it since there were people.

When someone posts something that, in the subject line, appears to be a derrogatory one about atheists, then you are feeding the same fire that you are complaining about. It's the intollerance on BOTH sides that keep it going, however, it is the religious side that tends to damn the atheist side, or any side that disagrees with them that also is a big draw to us non-religionists.
I'll be the first to admit that there are ridiculous posts from atheists in here that are both insulting, and inflamatory. But he who is without sin.....cast the first stone! LOL

I suppose it's the nature of the beast - that beast being Religion & Spirituality. If you walk into a boxing ring, you should be prepared for someone to throw punches. R&S isn't meant as a support group, but as a forum for debate. Debate, and lots of it, is what you get!
