I believe couples dont want to have sex, so they use their kids as an excuse.
How do couples engage in intimacy if they are sleeping with their kids?
Is it an excuse?
Any men out there with a response to this question?
Do you feel like your wife is sleeping with the kids in your marital bed to avoid intimacy, and candy coating it with the "well being and security of the child"?

Once we figured out that co-sleeping was best for our family, our son slept with us every night until he was around 3 years old. Somehow or other, he still ended up getting a baby sister when he was almost 2. :D

I'm not sure if you know this, but you are not actually required to have sex in a bed only ;-) In fact, having to 'get creative' can actually bring a couple closer together.

The kids still know that they can join us in bed any time that they want, after we've gone to sleep. They also know that on daddy's nights off work (he's a 3rd shifter), mom & dad like to stay up late 'watching movies in bed', so, if the door is closed, they should knock first, so they don't scare us.

I share everyone else's contention. My husband and I have an awesome sex life. We have sex nearly every day! And yes, we moved our 19 month old daughter into her own room when she was about one or so. But, even then, when she was in the portable crib in our room, we found the time to be quite "intimate."

I'm 30 years old and feel like i'm 20. I don't think anyone my age or even in their 40s ever wishes to avoid intimacy. We're in our prime, babe!

Take care.

It is a common practice. It can serve as a convenient excuse when needed but that's not all to it. Some are really happier to have kids with them while sleeping. Do not assume sex is non-existence when such practice is carried out and conversely, do not assume that sex is always happening when couple is not sleeping together with their kids.

We dont sleep with our kids, but I never thought of that as a reason people use.
Could be true for some, if my daughter has a bad dream (when she is older) then I would have her sleep with us, but I wouldnt want it to be an every night thing, I and KNOW my husband wouldnt.
Hrm...that is a good question.

Happy, some may do that, and maybe I've done it to have kids company, but never to avoid sex or intimacy. You have this problem, Happy? Your friend Jimmy.

ummm, you can be intimate with your mate in other areas of the house, it is not just confined to the bed or the bedroom. so if a wife says it is for the "well being and security of the child" she may be speaking the truth. lots of parents do this and are creative about the "adult" time they have together.

I dont think people use that as an excuse to not have sex with their spouse. They let their children sleep with them for other reasons.

And as other people have said..you dont have to just have sex in a bed.

My son is 14 months old and he used to HAVE to sleep with me or none of us got any sleep. As he is getting older he is sleeping in his crib and doing better at not wanting to come to bed with me. Even when he was in bed with us it was frustrating to us knowing we couldn't be intimate in our bed when we wanted to be. Having my son sleep with us had nothing to do with not wanting to be intimate with my hubby.

No most people allow thier children too sleep in thier beds because they dont know how too say "NO" to thier children.
