Dr. allows me to pick one which I'm comfortable with. I AM and WAS on Zyprexa and after a period of stopping it (Dr. allowed), it didn't seem to be working now...
Q1) Which antipsychotic drug would not seem to be knocking people down that easily? I don't want to feel drowsy and sleepy all the time. Please give name (of Rx), dosage your are taking and share your experience.
Q2) If stopping antipsychotic meds too quickly, what are the possible side effects?
no prank please....

Hi. I have been on several so I will tell you about them.

I am currently on Seroquel for Bipolar with several other medications. I take 600 mg. I love it. It calms my mind and my thoughts and allows me to sleep. However, if I take it too late at night, I do feel alittle tired the next day. I also think I gained weight on it.

I tried Abilify because it is supposed to be weight-neutral. It made me so anxious and revved up I wanted to kill someone. It was so uncomfortable for me that I had to stop it.

I tried Geodon and it did nothing. Did not help with calming me down and was a waste of money and time to try it.

I was on Risperdal for awhile and I liked that. But it made me lactate so I had to stop. (it is a side effect)

You might want to try Seroquel or Risperdal. Both are good.

The problem with zyprexa is that bit can cause weight gain ( a lot of weight gain) in some people. Abilify does the same job as Zyprexa but without a lot of the side effects. Best to speak to doc or ring your local pharmacist about Q2. good luck.

I take 20 mg of Abilify every morning for schizophrenia. I don't have any side effects at all and my symptoms have been in remission for over 4 years. I got seizures from Zyprexa. I hope you have prescription coverage because it costs about $600 per bottle. I only pay $3 because I have medicare. Hope that helps. Good Luck!

Hi....

hon, just because one medication works for me or someone else, doesn't mean it's right for you!

you can probably find out just as much information if you do a search for ANTI PSYCHOTIC MEDICATIONS to see what is available...and if you look up the individual types, the recommended doseages for starting on each drug, should be listed. also, ask the doctor for suggestions. he should know more than us.

all aniti psychotics i've ever taken leave me with a drowsy and tired feeling for the first several weeks... afterwards our bodies do adjust somewhat.

i hope you find something which helps. It's nice you have a doctor who works with you by letting you make some choices too!
take care

This is personal to your body and physiology.
Talk to your Dr and try a few on for size. It takes weeks to settle in, but drowsiness and side affects do wane.
