In a recent question, a person (and I use the term loosly) named "a psychic" said that Christianity would die out in about a hundred years. I've heard similar comments from others, and I just have to laugh at the stupidity of such a statement. Emporers, Czars, dictators and despots have tried to wipe out the Church for 2000 years, with no success. From the persecutions in Rome in the 2nd & 3rd centuries to the Communists in the 20th century and everything in betweeen, not only have their attempts to destroy the Church failed, but the Church has grown to span the globe. The office of the pope is the oldest continuing office on earth. Do godless people think that their half-baked intellectualism will actually topple the Body of Christ - the Church? The Church is the Bride of Christ: It is indestructable. Oh, it may go underground from time to time in different lands, but it can never die. When Christ comes again you will see Him and His Bride united in glory - no man can prevent that.

You're looking at it in the wrong light. Religion will not need to be "destroyed" or "toppled." As the person said, it will "die out." Scientific discoveries leave fewer and fewer mysteries for God to hide in. As we learn more about our world, we have fewer gaps to fill with God. Eventually, we will ALL realize how silly the concept of gods is. And Christianity will be one of many to die out.
I think it will take more than 100 years, but it will be inside of 500, I think.

As long as time continues to march on and humanity continues it will eventually die out. All religions do eventually, none last forever.
The Greek Pantheon lasted for over 2000 years but it too eventually died out, and I'm sure that people said that it would stand the test of time too.
Nothing can last forever, all things must come to an end. At the moment Christianity is already dying out in the most modern and westernized nations. atheism/agnosticism is by far and away the fastest growing belief system and in many countries in Europe it is already the majority.
Christianity is even shrinking in the U.S. a nation known for it's devout Christianity. By many reports Christianity is shrinking by 1% a year, which over time really starts to snowball.
So, I guarantee you, as science and knowledge get more and more advanced eventually the outdated beliefs of Christianity will either be replaced by atheism/agnosticism or by a completely new religion.

I don't think ANY religion will ever die out. People can the say the same of ANY faith. Christianity tried to stomp out all forms of Paganism but it seems to keep coming back. No one can ever kill ALL hope and faith.
Do I think Christianity is starting to implode? Parts of it, yes. The fact is that science is displacing the LITERALISM of the bible. Unless people start to see the Bible might not have meant to be literal, the certain parts of Christianity will die out from sheer ignorance which is sad. But no, Christianity will never be completely dead, any more or less then any other faith.

Hmm.... Truthfully, I'd rather have Fundamentalist Christians in 100 yrs then Fundamentalist Muslims.
Now if all the Abrahamic religions in a 100 yrs were moderates, I wouldn't have a problem. We'd all just get along.

Various Popes and those who have wished to consolidate their power have seen to this phenomenon you refer. I feel sorry for you. You use symbolism that contradicts your position (your avatar is Templar, is it not?), and hypocritcally turn around and criticize 'half-baked' intellectualism from your opponents. Do you really think a catch phrase like this means that your 'intellectualism' is superior? Learn your history.
There are two options: 1) Either the morons will take over and it will never die as you say 2) People will wise up and learn to accept truth as opposed to what the ancient psycho authors and editors had to say.
I take it you want the morons to win out, because what, they are the underdogs right? [NOT]

I believe you will die of old age right here on this side.
Hopefully fundamentalism will die out. The ignorance is so blatant it cannot last forever.
Some people a century ago figured out that they could take the fear a step farther and it was even more profitable.
Personally, I think you should believe whatever you want to believe. Just keep it out of our laws. And keep it out of our schools.

I doubt it will die out any time soon, but I would be careful saying that the church is indestrubtable. Remember, pride comes before the fall.

What you have to say here is excellent.
Here's another example. Pascal I believe it was, when he lived, stated categorically that in 100 years Christianity would be gone and the Bible would be eradicated from the face of the planet.
100 years later, his house was being used by the Bible Society.

So... should we all take that to mean, then, that you are going to stick with the belief that a cosmic Jewish zombie, who is his own father, can make you live forever if you symbolically eat his flesh and telepathically tell him that you accept him as your master so he can remove an evil force from your soul that is present in humanity because a rib-woman was convinced, by a talking snake with legs, to eat from a magical tree...(etc.)?
