A 'half' sibling is a brother or sister whom you share one parent (you either both have the same biological mom or dad). A 'step' sibling is a brother or sister only by marriage (you share no common biological bond).

A half brother has the same mother as the other child but a different father. Or it could be the same dad and a different mother.
A stepbrother comes from a 2nd marriage, Like Your mother married a Man with a son, that mans son would be your stepbrother.

A half brother is someone who has the same mom or dad as you, like if your father had a child with another woman. A step brother is someone who is in your family only by marriage, like if your father married a woman who already had another child.

A half brother is someone you share a parent with but not both. In my case, I have 1 brother as we share both a mother and a father, and 1 half brother. My father died, my mother remarried and she and my adopted father(who adopted my brother and I, legally) had a son, who is my half brother. We share a mother, but not a father by blood.
A step brother would be if my adopted father had a son with another woman, and when my mother married him, she would have become his step mother and we would have become step siblings. In that case, she would not be his biological mother and we would not be related by blood.
Hope that helps.

If your mother or father married someone with a son from a previous relationship, that son would become your step brother.
If your mother had a child with another man, or if your father had a child with another woman...that child would be your half brother, since you share one biological parent.

If I have a half brother. We only share one parent. Step brother means he is not my brother by blood but by marriage. Like if my mother got married to a man who has a son. His son is my step brother.

Step brother isn't a blood relative, you gain him because your parent marries his parent. Half brother is the product of your father and a woman who is not your mother having a child, or your mother and another man having a child.

Your half brother shares a parent with you. You either have the same mom or same dad, but not both.
Your step brother is the son of your parent's spouse. That is, one of your parents got married to someone and your stepbrother is his/her child.
The important thing to remember is that you share blood with your half brother, but not with your step brother.

Half brothers share a biological parent. You become step brothers when your parents marry, but you aren't actually biologically related.
