Yes, religion is a burden on mankind. It drags us down through every turn of our history and have always done so. It is, to quote Karl Marx [no, I'm not a communist], the "opium of the masses", the crutch that the weak cling to and lean on and use to duck out of responsibility for their lives and their actions.
Religion is the great divider of humanity. It teaches hate, violence, bigotry, intolerance AND then try to claim its the only right one, a religion of love, peace, etc. whilst the actions of the followers of the religion act completely opposite. I've only met a few true followers in my life, those that live the way they preach; with love, kindness, understanding, charity, etc. that the outspoken preach but never seem to actually do.
When the day comes that humanity is free from organised religion, then there is a small chance that we can evolve to another state of being, perhaps.

Yes, it hes destroyed knowledge, stifled creativity, stymied the advancement of humanity.
History clearly shows the detrimental effects of religion on societies.
The positive effects? Have not really seen any that would not have existed without it.

Exactly right.
Churches are being run like a business nowadays. Their main strategy is to instill guilt in every living organism and preach about eternal damnation to those who have doubt. They make sure you contribute to the church to keep it up and running in stylish fashion. The money spent on building churches is better off spent, feeding those kids in somalia.

Religion is man made. Relationship is what a person has when they get to to know Jesus Christ. Totally different.

Following Jesus Christ is not a burden - it is a blessing. I pray you find Truth - before it is too late.

Religion is a burden like sin.

We need a personal relation with God, then His commands will be pleasant.

Definitely. A good reference is Hitchens, but you won't have time enough to read it before then.
