God whispers to us in our pleasures, speaks to us in our joys, but shouts to us in our pains. . . . "Pain is God’s megaphone to rouse a deaf world." - C. S. Lewis. I think something that most women experience as mothers and wives is the reminders they have to give their loved ones. First you casually tell your son "clean up your room" or you ask your husband to do a particular chore - perhaps the dishes - whatever. They say "yeah' and blissfully forget. Then you remind them, once more and then again till finally you're yelling. Sometimes, pain and sorrow is the only way God can get us to do the right thing. We've been dreaming about it - teaching Sunday School, visiting some orphans or poor lonely widow / widower but we just keep on dreaming - the road to hell is paved with good intentions - we wind up doing nothing - pacifying our consciences by forgetting what we know in our heart of hearts what we clearly ought to do. That's one reason why God allows pain. Another is wilful disobedience and another is the bane of every true believer in the Lord Jesus Christ - suffering for our beliefs. All who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution. In the world we will have tribulation. That is what Jesus Himself told His disciples.

Our sins separate us from God. We can have the choice to accept Jesus his Son and have life. Problems in the world resulted because we abandoned God. God is there waiting for us to have life.

God gave us choice - free will. That was perfection. Otherwise we would be robots. Humanity has made a lot of bad choices, and God's people have allowed their voice to be shut down quite a bit. God set the laws into motion, mainly, the law of sowing and reaping. We make bad choices, and bad things come of it. That is just common sense.
God has not abandoned us, but we have abanoned Him in a majority of the people. God is alive and very active helping people out all the time. He has done a lot in my life and many of the people I know.
If you really want to search for answers to this question, look for someone who has really researched it for himself. Here on Y!A we're just a bunch of normal people, mostly answering out of our own opinions and thoughts. I have started reading a book that addresses the issue you bring up, it's called The Case for Faith by Lee Strobel. He was an athiest who struggled with questions like yours, and a few others. He couldn't reconcile a loving God with all the suffering he saw around him. The book explores the questions with some experts in different fields. It's really interesting and thought provoking.

God is an invention of the human psyche. We're not able to control a lot of stuff and it's nice to think 'someone is taking care of us'. The God idea takes away fears.
It's not a bad thing to believe in God, but believers should respect that others do not believe and that that fact doesn't necessarily make them bad people. I know faith has helped lots of people do 'the right thing', but it's not the only way. Not all humans need 'God' to be good individuals. But it's alright if you do.

We abandon God - He never abandons us. He is faithful - He is True - He is good - there is no evil in Him. These are basic truths from God's Word - the Holy Bible.
If you get to know Jesus Christ - you will have answers to your questions - but it is going to take faith - belief on your part. Can you do that?? God wants a relationship with you - He made you.
You need to change your mindset - God is LOVE AND MERCIFUL!!! THERE IS NO EVIL IN HIM!!!!
Blessing dear one and I pray you find Truth - He is so easy to find!

I hardly think the world has abandoned God! Look at all the staunch believers here alone!
And the world and life isn't crap! There's just too much freaking commercial media yapping about the crap all day long and never telling us about the anti-crap! LOL!
Consider this ....
for every piece of "crap" you see on TV or in the papers ... there are two equal, if not BETTER, stories of happiness, hope, random acts of kindness, children beating illnesses, communities helping minorities, etc. that the stupid media NEVER cover because it doesn't please the blood-thirsty sponsors and stockholders.
Every time there's one negative, two positives happen that we don't even know about.
So take heart! K?

You cannot abandon, or be abandoned by that which does not exist.
People often abandon the IDEA of a god, but that is simply because they realize that it's all non-sense. You spend your life praying for things and hoping for signs and you never get them... and then you tell people that you never get answers to your prayers and then the religious types tell you that you're not looking hard enough. What they mean is that you're not looking for subtle "everyday) things as "signs." The hardcore religious type may pray for something and ask for a sign as a bird flies by the window, a car drives past and a dog barks and they think their prayers have been answered.
This self-delusion and pawning off responsibility for the world's problems on some supernatural beings (god/satan) is the reason why this world is such $hit. Everyone wants to just sit back and let "god" work his magic, but there is no magic.... it's only us.

There are numerous answers to the problems of the world; sociological, environmental, economical, and so forth. I do not think that god has anything to do with the way things are in the world. Nor does this idea of abandoning god.
As I said there is no one reason why there is suffering, or why things are the way they are in the world.
