my dad is constantly going on telling me how he doesnt want me to start dating a guy until after college and he wants to meet him. even if i have a guy freind, my dad wants to talk to him on the phone (i never let him, though). but he's never been like that with my big brother. when my brother was 14, he was dating a 16 y/o girl, and my dad didnt even care.
what gives?

Basically, because he has the experience of being a teenage boy and he knows what boys do to girls.
When you get older you will appreciate it. Be glad your dad cares because there are plenty out there that don't.

Hee hee.I have the same problem... well used, to but its not as bad as it was then as it is now.My dad has SIX girls and we have no Brothers.So you can imagine what we all go through with him.It makes us laugh alot when we think how protective he is.
At first I used to be angry that he was so "ridiculously over protective" but then I realized that it was just love and fear.You are his baby girl[we all remain a baby in their eyes]. He will do whatever needs to be done to protect you.Let me give you an example:
I rent to attend college and in my fist year a guy came to where I was renting and scared the hell out of me.So I called my dad the night and told him.My girl, he was there bright and early in the morning[the sun didnt even rise yet] and demanding to know where,who and what exactly was this boy .Well I laughed cuz he was so upset and I had no idea who the person was.I'm just showing you how protective they can be.
My dad also goes into cardiac arrest if you tell him you're going out for the night with some male friends.Hee hee.Sometimes my sisters and I say stuff just to see his pressure raise.LOL.
Instead of fighting it accept it.My sisters and I did that and now we realize that its not because of dislike or because he wants to control you but its because of love.

A daughter can get pregnant or have a ruined reputation, or have her heart broken and he has to see her suffer. If a son does that to someone else, sure there are still consequences, but the worst of them are going on in someone else's house.
Also, I suspect some dads remember how they treated girls when they were that age, and they are afraid that their little girl is going to run into a version of themselves.

Its a culture thing. However your father is being unrealistic. If you wait until you are out of college, when will you get the opportunity to learn how to recognize good men from bad men? Dating has a purpose, its important to spend some time (not sexual) with men and learn how to deal with them. You need to talk to your mom on this, she should be guiding you through early womanhood, and helping you with your father.
Give him a break. Most dads are like this because he remembers exactly what he was like and it makes him uneasy that someone would be like that with his daughter. However, we always met the guys going out with our daughters, and out of respect for your father, any man worth his salt will want to meet him.

Because they know what they were like as boys and they want to protect their daughters from that ;)
He's trying to protect you hun. Give him a hug and a kiss, thank him for caring, and then continue living your life the way you want. Our parents only just want to save us from the mistakes they made, but that's know how we work. It's not enough that they tell us something is hot, we have to feel it and see for ourselves. Good for you, not letting him talk to your male buds.

I think this is a guy thing.
A daughter is "weak" (or at least, perceived as such) and guys are all predators out to take advantage of her.
(This is what fathers think).
A guy taking advantage of a girl, is apparently accepted, or 'the other fathers problem' - but you (the girl) should be different, protected against all these 'evil' boys etc.
Get used to it..
At least he cares enough to be willing to protect you.

For one reason, your brother can't get pregnant. I think all dads want to believe their daughters are virgins even when they are married. :)
My dad used to say "I feel sorry for any guy who ends up with you." I think you've done better in the dad stakes. At least your dad has some standards for you.

It's always like this....fathers are very protective about their daughters. It just shows how much your father loves you and cares about you. You might be able to understand this at a later stage in life. Just love him back, you're lucky to have a father like him.
