In my hometown, they'd set a date in the 80's- but maybe that was just my local branch? It as like 85 or something. My mother would drive us by the house they were holed up in. This was before Waco and all that, of course.

Jehovah's Witnesses have never made any "predictions" or pretended that they are infallible or inspired. Jehovah's Witnesses have never pretended that they experience miraculous messages from God or Christ. For more than a century, Jehovah's Witnesses have always presented their suppositions as the result of sincere bible research, rather than as "predictions" or "prophesying".
Interestingly, however, even those Christians who did enjoy direct communication from heaven at times came to wrong conclusions; these wrong conclusions were even communicated "out among the brothers"!
For example, the apostle Peter enjoyed remarkable privileges in the early congregation, but it seems that he was the source of an incorrect teaching about the apostle John that was not formally corrected until several DECADES had passed, and John himself finally wrote his gospel about 98 C.E.
(John 21:21-23) Peter said to Jesus: “Lord, what will this man do [that is, the apostle John]?” Jesus said to him: “If it is my will for him to remain until I come, of what concern is that to you? You continue following me.” In consequence, this saying went out among the brothers, that [the apostle John] would not die. However, Jesus did not say to him that he would not die, but: “If it is my will for him to remain until I come, of what concern is that to you?”
Like the human but conscientious apostles, what group is working harder than Jehovah's Witnesses to preach God's message globally (as Noah did before the Deluge)?
(Amos 3:7) For the Sovereign Lord Jehovah will not do a thing unless he has revealed his confidential matter to his servants the prophets.
(2 Peter 2:5) Noah, a preacher of righteousness...
(Matthew 24:14) And this good news of the kingdom will be preached in all the inhabited earth for a witness to all the nations; and then the end will come.

****"DECADES BEFORE THAT DATE there was an organization of people who were making known the significance of 1914. The New York World of August 30, 1914, explains: “The terrific war outbreak in Europe has fulfilled an extraordinary prophecy. For a quarter of a century past, through preachers and through press, the ‘International Bible Students’ [Jehovah’s Witnesses] . . . have been proclaiming to the world that the Day of Wrath prophesied in the Bible would dawn in 1914. ‘Look out for 1914!’ has been the cry of the . . . evangelists.”29
--WE HAVE gotten it right , where-ever you get the idea that we go about GUESSING AT DATES you are greatly mistaken! Please note:
*** ce chap. 18 pp. 227-229 The Bible—Is It Really Inspired by God? ***
**1914—The Turning Point in History
--30 From the human standpoint, the world troubles and global wars foretold in the Bible were far from the thinking of the pre-1914 world. German statesman Konrad Adenauer said: “Thoughts and pictures come to my mind, . . . thoughts from the years before 1914 when there was real peace, quiet and security on this earth—a time when we didn’t know fear. . . . Security and quiet have disappeared from the lives of men since 1914.”25 People living before 1914 thought that the future “would get better and better,” reported British statesman Harold Macmillan.26 The book 1913: America Between Two Worlds notes: “Secretary of State Bryan said [in 1913] that ‘conditions promising world peace were never more favorable than now.’”27
--31 So, right up to the very brink of World War I, world leaders were forecasting an age of social progress and enlightenment. But the Bible had foretold the opposite—that the unprecedented war of 1914 to 1918 would highlight the beginning of “the last days.” (2 Timothy 3:1) The Bible also provided CHRONOLOGICAL EVIDENCE(my caps) that 1914 would mark the birth of God’s heavenly Kingdom, to be followed by unprecedented world trouble.28 But was anyone living back then aware that 1914 ?would be such a turning point in history?
(--AGAIN FOR EMPHASIS--this publication was not a back room printing IT WAS A WELL KNOWN periodical!--AND only the Bible students as Jehovah's witnesses GOT IT RIGHT)
--None of the religions had the concern for mankind entering such a terrible time but us , (in our imperfection), the little unknown group that spoke out at the right time!

****UPDATE: "the day and hour"(Matthew 24:36) exactly is different than what is referred to as the "last days! "DAY AND HOUR"-is referring to the exact time of Armageddon of which we do not claim to know!
The "last days" "conclusion of the system of things" "time of the end" etc. is a time period that is referred to at Rev. 12:12 after Satan was thrown out of the heavens----IN 1914!
THE WARNING "woe to the earth .... (Revelation 12:12) “. . .On this account be glad, YOU heavens and YOU who reside in them! Woe for the earth and for the sea, because the Devil has come down to YOU, having great anger, knowing he has a short period of time.””
--THAT IS THE "time of the end" that we are deeply in! (2 Timothy 3:1-5)
--WHAT IS WRONG in hoping for God's Kingdom in the hands of Christ to take total control?(."...thy kingdom come thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven....")
--Should we prefer this sick world over God's righteous intervention?
--DO YOU want this world to continue wading around in the immoral, violent, degrading cesspool it is in --KNOWN AS the "last days"?

no, i have not heard of any, maybe they read the bible where Jesus Christ said that no man knows that day or hour neither do the angles of heaven, Jesus even said he didn't know it but his father does, so how can a religion come up with it. Between Charles t Russell and Rutherford they have 6 failed prophesies. Read Duet; 21; 3-4.
