Depnds on what kind of pilot really

2007-08-09 03:56:56 · answer #1 · answered by Anonymous · 0 1

It can happen, just not right away. Becoming a pilot is not hard, but becoming a seasoned pilot with years of experience is where the money is. It takes a LONG time to become a commercial pilot as you would have to fly corporate aircraft for a few years before landing a good job as a Commercial pilot. Then you'd be away from home most of the time, so you wouldn't have alot of time to enjoy those cars and homes -- your wife and kids would though! I work in the aviation industry and have daily contact with Commercial pilots that fly around 3-4 days a week and spend most nights in hotels (not even nice ones -- most companies only want 3 or 4 star hotels)

Airline pilots start out with regional most of the time, flying a regional jet first year you will make around 20-22,000 after about 4-5 years of regional flying and making around $42,000 you will be ready to apply to a major airline or cargo airline. These pilots start off making around $55,000 and as you stay with the airline longer and fly bigger planes you make more money. 777 Captains at American make the most money, 747 captains at United make the most for their airline etc.. At the end if you made it all the way up to the 747/777/A330 type plane captain you can be making $155,000-$170,000 but only the lucky few make this type of money with most airlines. There are a lot of flying jobs besides for airline flying, but airline flying does pay the best at the end. Airline pay ranges from $18,000-$160,000
The best paying flying jobs are at Fed Ex, UPS and Southwest airlines in the United States.
Sure there you go pilots really don’t make much money for what they do, but if you love flying it is just something you have to do. It takes a lot of skill and hard work to become an airline pilot, and at any moment your career can end because of a failed flying test or drug test, failed medical exam or a personal injury or even getting arrested. Becoming an pilot with an major airline takes a lot of hours at least 4,500 with 1,000 hours of turbine engine time Pilot in command. And you always have the risk of being fired or furloughed at any moment. Being a pilot is also considered the third most dangerous job in the world. (pilot not only commercial pilot)

It is like any other career you have to start at the bottom with low paid flying jobs and then maybe one day you hit the big time working for one of the major Airlines with all the financial rewards.

There is catch though no one is going to give you all that money for nothing so be prepared to be away from your flash house/car for most part of the year. Money isn't everything if you want to be a pilot make sure you are doing it because you love flying!

Aaron becoming a pilot takes lots of skill & technical expertise! Afterall they r responsible for plane, cargo & or lives of passengers and crew. It's not as glamours as u thinking. Wealth is a relative term... u could be an aircraft controller and make the same income bracket... High school has apptitude testing /counselors to see if u possess the potential to apply for pilot school. Someone mention the Air Force also Navy and Marines have pilots but the competition is fierce. U have to have the brains, quick reflexes, and excellent health to be in the elite of the elite...

How hard can you study? What's your level of concentration? Can you see beside you when that's not your focus point? How do you respond if something breaks your thought? You have to do these things before you become a money earning pilot. Those who judge you will know. There's no bluffing.

Currently there's a world wide shortage of Pilots. NWA just dropped one of their routes, I think it was Boston, due to pilot shortage. But in aviation only the best need apply.

Experienced airline pilots make about 100k per year. Depending on the cost of living in you City/State of choice you can live a decent life style, but that's far from wealthy.

The major airlines pay well. However, the best reason to become a pilot is the love of flying. If money is your only motive, then you will hate it (regardless of pay).

It depends about the company that you are going to working with, the salary that you will get and how you will spend your salary!!!
But if you organized your life, you'll live a wealthy life style and buy cool stuff like nice cars & house.
good luck

If you are a pilot for a major airline, then yes you will. They make a LOT of money. But it's difficult to get into doing that. Airlines usually hire people who have been in the Airforce because they have the training. Also, it costs a lot of money to get to the point of achieving a Commercial airline license. But the airforce pays for all that stuff.

If you have to ask, flip the burgers already, the people at the drive-up window have been waiting long enough !

Doesn't anybody out here have a sense of humor? It's a kid asking how he can get rich quick w/o working for it. Instant gratification syndrome. Duh!
Probably can't fold a decent paper airplane.

Hey, need more thumbs down to break my record........LOL!
