People who advocate organic foods seem to ignore the reason why it was necessary all those years ago to develop chemicals and such forth in the first place.
In Europe millions were starving due to food shortages brought on by a swell in the birth rate that has never abatted. This is why new farming methods were developed, and food began to be less "natural". Those who clamber for organic farming to be made the norm fail to see how this would effect the rest of the population.
Oragnic goods are no more better for you than the food that you pick up off the shelves. It is marketed as being better for you, for the sole purpose of putting the price up.

*** this is the best answer, if not because it is the most informative -- then because of the total lack of supporting evidence given by the other answers which have mostly been given by people who think they're just getting ripped off by paying more $ for the same thing.
you are getting much higher quality product for your $. a non-organic tomato spends much less time on the vine than an organic tomato. nutrients take time to develop.. the more time they are on the vine growing the healthier it is. for EXAMPLE... one organic tomato could really have the nutritional value of 1.5 or 2 non organic tomatos MINUS all the harmful stuff that these growers use to speed up and increase production/weight. THESE ARE THE PEOPLE RIPPING YOU OFF -- not organic growers
buy organic whenever possible. if you do this you will be healthier, feel better, get sick less, take less time off work, oh yeah and your family will live longer eating out of your fridge.
in addition to all the bonuses i just mentioned, the more people buying organic will ultimately bring the costs of such products down.
i will now attempt to explain the 2 key factors in why you see higher prices for organic products... here goes it
#1 - Organic Certification is not free. to start with, there are very strict guidelines. with that being said .. companies that want to use the "Organic" label on their products MUST PAY to use this label. there are organic foods out there that can only say "all natural" because the companies are smaller and cannot yet afford the certification.
#2 - simple economics - as is with ANY product, organic or non-organic.. supply and demand determines price. if generic apple grower X has a much larger demand for its product, then the price is lower. if organic apple grower Y has less demand for its product, than the cost goes up. easy concept even for the lesser educated consumer
these are 2 issues that should not be neglected when explaining to consumers the reason they pay more for organic.
for your own sake, don't be ignorant. or frugal.

Organic has different meanings, organic meat products are grown in open fields and fed natural food sorces
non organic animals are fed food that is designed to get maximum growth in the shortest time and are usually storred in giant warehouses under artificial light.
organic vegetables do not use artificial chemicals to aid growth or kill disease or insects
non organic veg does use all the above

There particularly isn't a great sort of a sort vast distinction between organic and organic and organic and organic and inorganic, besides the shown fact that organic and organic and organic and organic meals has a tendency to be extra energizing with the aid of utilising fact it is going undesirable speedier. you are able to sort the freshness. as far as meat, it tastes the comparable.

organic means without pesticides or any chemical spray on the food. All animals, fowls, etc. is fed just feed not given chemical shots of whatever. As for being better for you, some say that it is,because there isn't as much fat on the meat and chickens, or the fruit and vegetables aren't sprayed. but I say all food, if properly handled and properly de-fatted while fixing is okay for you, especially if money matters as it does with most people today.

Organicas are supposedly chemical free, meaning that they use no pesticides in growing them, but most of them are locally grown, close to the city where acid rain runs rampant. I don;t think there is any benefit. Many big farmers stopped using pesticides any way. They also cost three times as much. I think it is just a way for the small local farmer to comete with the big guys
I would however recommend minimizing how many preservatives you eat. I look for the all natural mark, whihc means that my food has no potassium sorbate or other stuff.

Organic is part of the "back to nature" movement. It is considered by some to be healthier, then things grown with additives. Anything that is grown using natural fertilizers, is considered to be organic.

Organic....containing Carbon
All vegetable & animal produce is organic by definition.
Moreover........plant-food must usually be inorganic (polar-soluble) in order to be taken up by plants. Plants can't know whether the inorganic NPK they uptake came from artificial chemical-synthesis or well-rotted manure. These "organic" junkies didn't pay much attention in Bio-Chem 101

Its supposed to be grown in a natural manner without chemicals and pesticides. I think its mostly the latest "in word" to put on a label to get people to pay more for a product.
