Limewire usually does not spoil a computer on installing it. However, it may slow down the computer as Limewire always runs in the background.
However, it may be that your friends downlaoded a file with a virus in it. If they opened it without scanning it, the virus may have infected their computer and slowed it down.
If you ever download a file through any P2P program, you should always scan it for viruses before opening it.

Two possible causes....
First, they may have downloaded something that was infected with a virsus or spyware. It has infected them and slowed their PCs.
Also, the Limewire program, even when you are not actively using it to download files, runs in the background. (Notice the Limewire icon near the clock in the system tray.) If they have a slow computer or Internet connection to start with, the program can bring their computer to a crawl. They need to be sure that if they are not actively download a file, they go into the system tray, click on the Limewire icon, and shut it completely down.

Depends whether it happened when they installed it or after they had downloaded stuff, which may have contained viruses. LimeWire runs using Java so it may slow a PC down a little, but it shouldn't be too significant. You should always run an antivirus and scan files, especially those downloaded from P2P software, before opening them.

Maybe because they downloaded videos or programs. It's best not to download those things. Audio files are safe thou. And also check the virus checking thing of limewire. It will state there if a file may be infected with any viruses.
