The questioner seems to have confused "god coming back" (which has no connection with the bible) with the actual bible teaching regarding the "advent" of Christ.
The bible explicitly says that "the conclusion of the system of things" would be associated with Christ's "presence" (the so-called "second coming"). Christians were reminded again and again to endure to 'Christ's presence', which the bible also calls 'the Lord's day'.
(1 Corinthians 5:4-5) In the name of our Lord Jesus, when you are gathered together... saved in the day of the Lord.
(1 Thessalonians 5:23) May the very God of peace sanctify you completely... be preserved in a blameless manner at the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ.
(1 Corinthians 1:7,8) you are eagerly waiting for the revelation of our Lord Jesus Christ. He will also make you firm to the end, that you may be open to no accusation in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ.
(Matthew 24:3) The disciples approached [Jesus] privately, saying: “Tell us, When will these things be, and what will be the sign of your presence and of the conclusion of the system of things?”
Note that Matthew 24:3 (and other Scriptures) connect Christ's presence with "the conclusion of the system of things". Matthew chapter 24, Mark chapter 13, and Luke chapter 21 plainly enumerate a list of signs that would indicate that "the Lord's day", "Christ's presence", the beginning of "the conclusion of the system of things" had begun (see also 2 Tim 3:1-5 and Dan 2:28;10:14).
(Matthew 24:3-14,27) What will be the sign of your presence and of the conclusion of the system of things?” And in answer Jesus said to them: “Look out that nobody misleads you; for many will come on the basis of my name, saying, ‘I am the Christ,’ and will mislead many. You are going to hear of wars and reports of wars; see that you are not terrified. For these things must take place, but the end is not yet. “For nation will rise against nation and kingdom against kingdom, and there will be food shortages and earthquakes in one place after another. All these things are a beginning of pangs of distress. “Then people will deliver you up to tribulation and will kill you, and you will be objects of hatred by all the nations on account of my name. Then, also, many will be stumbled and will betray one another and will hate one another. And many false prophets will arise and mislead many; and because of the increasing of lawlessness the love of the greater number will cool off. But he that has endured to the end is the one that will be saved. And this good news of the kingdom will be preached in all the inhabited earth for a witness to all the nations; and then the end will come. ...so the presence of the Son of man will be.
(Mark 13:4-13) What will be the sign when all these things are destined to come to a conclusion?” So Jesus started to say to them: “...when you hear of wars and reports of wars, do not be terrified; these things must take place, but the end is not yet. “For nation will rise against nation and kingdom against kingdom, there will be earthquakes in one place after another, there will be food shortages. These are a beginning of pangs of distress. ...Also, in all the nations the good news has to be preached first. ...and you will be objects of hatred by all people on account of my name. But he that has endured to the end is the one that will be saved.
(Luke 21:7-28) Then they questioned [Jesus], saying: “Teacher, when will these things actually be, and what will be the sign when these things are destined to occur?” He said: “...when you hear of wars and disorders, do not be terrified. For these things must occur first, but the end does not occur immediately.” Then he went on to say to them: “Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom; and there will be great earthquakes, and in one place after another pestilences and food shortages... I will give you a mouth and wisdom, which all your opposers together will not be able to resist or dispute. ...you will be objects of hatred by all people because of my name. ...By endurance on your part you will acquire your souls. ...And then they will see the Son of man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. But as these things start to occur, raise yourselves erect and lift your heads up, because your deliverance is getting near.”
Of course, the composite sign cannot define any specific date, so Christians are obliged to continue to care for family obligations and other practicalities of life. But Christians cannot be complacent!
(Mark 13:32-35) Concerning that day or the hour nobody knows, neither the angels in heaven nor the Son, but the Father. Keep looking, keep awake, for you do not know when the appointed time is. ...Therefore keep on the watch
(Luke 21:34-36) But pay attention to yourselves that your hearts never become weighed down with overeating and heavy drinking and anxieties of life, and suddenly that day be instantly upon you as a snare. For it will come in upon all those dwelling upon the face of all the earth. Keep awake
The Scriptures also teach plainly that most humans would be obliviously preoccupied with the mundane, and thus would be caught unawares.
(Matthew 24:36-39) Concerning that day and hour nobody knows, neither the angels of the heavens nor the Son, but only the Father. For just as the days of Noah were, so the presence of the Son of man will be. For as they were in those days before the flood, eating and drinking, men marrying and women being given in marriage, until the day that Noah entered into the ark; and they took no note until the flood came and swept them all away, so the presence of the Son of man will be.
Of course, the bible teaches that God and Christ step in to correct all the problems facing mankind, and usher in a paradise of peace and true worship. Perhaps the most tragic is that so-called Christendom ignores this plain teaching of Christ Jesus himself.

“Little children it is the last time: and as ye have heard that antichrist shall come, even now are there many antichrists, whereby we know that it is the last time” (1 John 2:18). “But the end of all things is at hand” (1 Peter 4:7). “The time is short: it remaineth, that both they that have wives be as though they had none” (1 Corinthians 7:29). “Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass away, till all be fulfilled” (Luke 21:32; see also Mark 13:30; Matthew 23:36, 24:34). “But I tell you of a truth, there be some standing here, which shall not taste of death, till they see the kingdom of God” (Luke 9:27; see also Mark 9:1; Matthew 16:28). “And Noah builded an altar unto the Lord; and took of every clean beast, and of every clean fowl, and offered burnt offerings on the altar. And the Lord smelled a sweet savour; and the Lord said in his heart, I will not again curse the ground any more for man’s sake; for the imagination of man’s heart is evil from his youth: neither will I again smite any more every living thing, as I have done” (Genesis 8:20-21). “One generation passeth away, and another generation cometh; but the earth abideth forever” (Ecclesiastes 1:4).

God is going to send Jesus back to get those who have accepted Him into their heart. God will say well done to anyone who has believed in Jesus, that He's God's Son, that He died for us, rose again, and anyone who has asked His forgiveness and accepted Him into their heart and lives. It doesn't matter what your religion is, if you've done this. God doesn't look at your outward religious affiliations, He looks at your heart.
