It went thus,"Father Abraham had many sons and many sons had father abraham..." Etc
Now I understand the first line well enough but... many sons had father abraham? There seems something really... I dunno wrong about this statement.

father abraham had many sons, and many sons had father abraham. i am one of them and so are you, so let's all praise the Lord - right arm (start waving the right arm around)...

i think that song is so fun and kids love it too. it's like the hokey-pokey song where you get to do all those body movements and jump around.

It just means that Abraham from the Bible had many sons. Those sons obviously had a father, Abraham. There's nothing at all wrong with that line.

Galatians 3:5 Does he who supplies the Spirit to you and works miracles among you do so by works of the law, or by hearing with faith-- 6 just as Abraham "believed God, and it was counted to him as righteousness"? 7 Know then that it is those of faith who are the sons of Abraham. 8 And the Scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, preached the gospel beforehand to Abraham, saying, "In you shall all the nations be blessed."

it's a device used to repeat the first line, but making it sound different- they just didn't want to say "Father Abraham had many sons" twice.

It's just taking the first line and swapping the first part and the second part. Those are all his descendents. All the kids in our VBS every year never have a problem understanding that song. That's weird that you can't understand it. How old are you, anyway?

Many sons refers to descendants whom God said would be as many as the grains of sand.

It's figurative since literally he only had one. It means he fathered a huge nation like he was promised he would.
