Have you listened to them for a least 2 hours?

I have and think they are a good all around speaker, but you really need to listen to them for yourself, with the intended receiver or amp you plan to use. You should do some evaluation with several speakers and several amps to get a feel for what you like.

I agree that separates are a good way to go, but you may not be impressed with what they add to this speaker set. A Denon or Onkyo should be used to help you evaluate both the speaker and receiver you intend to use. These for me are a great match to B&W, Klipsch, Polk, and Mission speakers.

I think you are on the right track, but make sure to evaluate them properly.

Hey there. If you want your Polks to sing we have to start at the beginning.of the chain. The most important component of your Audio Video system is your Scource component (cd/dvd player tuner, record player tape etc) When the signal leaves the software it is processed by the Source component and sent to the Preamplifier via an Interconnect Cable. If the signal is altered or damaged by the Source and the interlink cable the Preamp can't fix it when it is amplified . and sent to the Power Amps. If the Preamp changes or damages it before it gets to the Power amp,. the damaged signal will be passed onto the Power Amp to be furthur amplified and sent to the Speakers..
From the beginning of the system to the end, nothing can improve the original signal.Because we can't make the sound better than it is on the software, the goal is to degrade it as little as possible .If information is lost or damaged (distorted, changed.altered)at the Source, nothing else down the chain can make up for ,or repair it.You simply must put something good into the system to get something good out.
Ok .Assuming your Scorce component is very good. You need a high quality Stereo Preamplifier and Power amplifier or a very good Intergrated Amplifier.A Receiver is not good enough for your speakers. Before we look into some good amplification we have to know your budget.
