Is there really `a best`? There are `quality` T.V.`s and `get what you pay for`T.V.`s. It is sometimes a question of luck, we all have different experiences with electrical goods! For example I see you have mentioned Phillips, Several years ago, I paid over £.1000. for one of their T.V.`s, two months after the guarantee ran out, the tube `went`. They would not` waiver `the two months, and we had to dispose of the T.V. For the price I paid them, I could have bought five cheap T.V.`s.
With the `new` T.V.`s two of the best are Sony and Panasonic, they both carry a five year guarantee whereas the usual manufacturers `guarantee is only one year. I can`t give you prices off hand, but at the moment Sony have been advertising a national half price sale; so you could get a bargain.

The best would be something like a Seleco, or top-end Pioneer or Sony. About £3,000.

The cheapest would be some tat like Tevion, Bush, Goodmans, Proline, etc. About £500.

The Philips is an average, middle-of-the-road television.
