.. they are not entitled to an opinion on it as they do not believe in God or understand its content. I know nothing about engines and my car wouldnt start but I read in a manual that it needed a new starter motor, I wouldn't say "I dont believe that mumbo jumbo, which idiot wrote that, all the losers that follow these make believe instructions need to get a life !!"

Forgive me, I am trying to make a comparison between people commenting on the facts that we know as the bible, being slated and pulled to bits by people who dont understand it. Fine, just answer with "I myself dont believe that so I can't comment", not "Its a loada rubbish and anyone who believes it is an idiot"

It is not enough for them to condemn themselves to their own fate, they like Satan want everyone to fall with them. Of course they deny this, they don't even realize what a pawn for evil they have become. In their own blinded state they think they are the "enlightened"ones, must like Lucifer did just before he and a third of the angles where cast down for their rebellion. Remember, " the fool has saith in his heart, there is no God." But as well, "every knee shall bow and every tongue confess, that Jesus Christ is Lord."

You are not entitled to an opinion when you do not believe something? Which planet do you come from?

It is precisely we do not believe your god therefor we are entitled to an opinion. One that is opposite of yours. You claim atheist do not understand its content, but had you actually (or conveniently) left out the fact most atheists were christians who had read the whole bible and done serious thinking into it? It is easier to believe in a religion then to get out of it.

You know nothing about engine and your car would not start, and you read a manual that says it need a new starter motor and you disbelieve it when you did not go in depth into it? Atheists will try to test out the engine first. Your analogy is totally flawed. I give you an analogy using your "car" theory to describle the christian:

You know nothing about engine and your car would not start, and you hear some peasants who say you will need a donkey to pull the car because it is done in their families since 2000 years ago. He even give you an instruction manual craved in some ancient language as proof. You buy a donkey from him and it pulled the car. IT WORKS, the CAR MOVED. Therefore this peasant is right !!! Car is powered by donkey and not engines. You actually believed it without verifying and because somebody with an ancient book say so, and coincidentally something happened you believed blindly.

One fine day, you meet a car mechanic, he saw you are pulling your car with a donkey and commented It is a load lot of rubbish you need an engine. You show him the ancient book and claim this are the facts, it is passed down for 2000 years and see, the donkey works, your engine don't. (Ok, by then you are so convinced the donkey works, you refused to change the engine and start the car, just a whip will do just fine).

So is this comparison valid?

How on earth have you figured that? If people don't believe the Bible, they don't believe it for a reason. I don't think you have any right to tell them they're not allowed to give those reasons. If "It's completely unrealistic" is the reason they don't believe it, why shouldn't they be allowed to say it? And just because someone is an atheist does not mean they don't understand the Bible. Having spent seven years at a Church of England school and a continued fascination with religion beyond that, I think I have quite a good understanding of the Bible, actually. Plus, why are you not adding that Creationists are "not entitled" to an opinion on Evolution? There are a lot of them who *really* don't understand the opposite opinion - the amount of times the question "If we evolved from monkeys, how are there still monkeys in existence" has been posted is unbelievable. Your logic could go on and on forever, and it doesn't work. Sorry.

Being atheist (a long with a lot of people in this great country) we are entitled to an opinion on whatever we we like. I think you'll find more atheists understand the contents of the bible better than some of you members of the "god" squad.
They can read it with an open-mind and evaluate it using logic and knowledge, where as you guys tend to be very close-minded and use it for your own purposes (changing meanings of passages or telling someone that they used it out of context).

The difference between you bible and a book about engines is firstly we know that these books would have probably been written by someone who exists and knows what they are talking about. Secondly, the engine book wouldn't have been pushed down the throats of millions of people in order to control them!

Finally, we don't really need to discredit the bible, it (as well as its followers) does that very well for us!

The writings in your car manual are hard facts. If you do everything that the manual tells you to do correctly then you will be rewarded with a fully working motor car.
The Bible discredits itself with a sucession of tall tales and contradictions.
There is no proof that even if you follow the teachings of the Bible to the letter you will get any kind of reward. You will just have led a very dull uninteresting life.
Comparing the Bible to a Haynes manual is a non starter. I would take the manual as it is of some use. You would be better trying to compare the Bible to Grimms fairy stories.

it is a fake book, and religion
The stuff written about Jesus in the Bible was written decades after he supposedly died. The first writings were Paul / Saul who never met Jesus, but only met people who supposedly met him. So, it's second-hand information, at best.

Paul really didn't say much about Jesus. He said nothing about his upbringing or earlier life. He doesn't give much of Jesus' teachings, either.

Decades after Paul wrote about him, suddenly some stories were "remembered" by Mark, or whoever wrote in Mark's name. (It was common in those days to sign a more famous name to your work) The later writings of Matthew, Luke, and John seem to have copied Mark or used similar stories or myths that were being circulated in that day.

There were many other stories written about Jesus, too. As Christianity was becoming more popular, people would add to the legend, just as the Gospel writers did.

Around the mid-300's, Constantine converted to Christianity, and made Christianity a state religion. He convened a council of Bishops to decide what stories would be official canon or not. They rejected the rest, for whatever reasons, calling them the Apocrapha.

After more councils, they decided other doctrine, such as whether Jesus was divine or not, created the concept of the "Trinity", decided that Mary was a virgin and a bit divine herself, and other matters not addressed in the Bible

Ok first off...you're an idiot...the person that wrote that manual about the car either built that engine, or has worked on one and knows exactly how it works...however, no one that wrote your precious book can claim such a thing, because the bible was written by men who were "inspired by god". Divine inspiration doesnt make it any truer than if god himself wrote it...(who just so happens to be a deluded, egotistical, power tripping punk)

Every time someone questions the bible or god, your response is always something along the lines of we cant possibly understand god, or question him because we aren't worthy...my question is who made you god overnight? who says im not worthy to question god? i dont care if he came back and i was wrong i'd still question him about all the things "he's done" that i think are stupid....just because you use ignorance to cover for your inability to question your very existance doesnt mean the rest of us have to...

If you're entitled to your opinions about god so are we, and if you can get on your soap box and preach about how wonderful god is, then i'm allow to get on mine and tell about how much i think he sucks and doesnt exist....and if you dont like it....i got two words for you....."SUCK IT!"

Poor analogy. If you said it's a load of crap, someone more knowledgeable could follow the instructions and fix the car, thus proving that the instructions manual is factual.

You also claim atheists don't get to argue against the bible because they don't understand it. That's nonsense. It is through reading it and understanding it that many people become atheists.

And since when has being critical of something meant you're not allowed to state your opinion of something? I could equally say "you don't believe the atheist position is true, so you have no right to comment on it". Your argument is utter garbage.

I'm not an atheist, but another religious group that your religion chooses to treat as being wrong and evil. So atheist are not allowed an opinion about your religion when the Christian community of which you are a part forces their beliefs on all the rest of us. Doesn't seem fair to me and it is very hypocritical of you!
Your logical comparison doesn't hold water since your religion states that it is only the true religion. When you force other people to accept your belief you are giving them the right to criticise. So don't complain as long as you are going to mindlessly follow a religion that doesn't even embrace the idea of other religions.

Why do (some) Xtians try to refute scientific theories when they are not entitled to an opinion as they do not believe in fact or care to understand it?

"I dont believe that mumbo jumbo, which idiot wrote that, all the losers that follow these make believe instructions need to get a life." Is this not what the fundies say about theories like evolution?
