The fan rotates in the direction to blow air or to draw it, it really doesn't matter as long as it does the job. You can choose the direction of the fan rotation only for AC motors by reversing the wires

Generally a fan rotates anti-clockwise if it's blades are not tilted in opposit than usual direction.

Fan rotates in anticlockwise direction ,viewing from bottom.
Fan blades (3 nos) are 120 degrees apart.

It depends on angle of fan blades. For one set of angle, If the rotation is clock wise it will throw air in one direction( say forward direction) and if the rotation of fan is reversed, same blades will throw air in other direction(backward direction)

Between blade to blade the air pocket is chopped and pushed by the angle of blade. Therefore, direction of rotation depends on angle of blades and the desire for which side the air throw is required.

Clockwise in case of table and pedestal fans
(stator is fixed and rotor is free to rotate)
Anti clockwise in case of ceiling fans
(Here the rotor shaft is held and stator is free
to rotate)

It depends on the fact that in which direction is the current flowing in the motor.According to Fleming's Left hand rule:
Hold ur fore finger, middle finger & ur thumb in such a way that they are perpendicular to one another. The forefinger points in the direction of magnetic field, middle finger in the direction of flow of current & thumb in the direction of rotationof motor and in turn, the fan.

usually counter clockwise, but you can tell by the angle of the blades, and whether it's supposed to move air forward or backward. The blade should have the suction side in the rear and move from back to front,if you turn the blade around by hand with motor off,the angle of the blade should match, going from back to front.Ceiling fans have reversible motors,so they go both directions.usually down in summer and up in winter.

Well, I just turned around and looked at my (ceiling) fan, I suggest you try the same (looking at the fan that is, if it is moving to fast to tell, try turning it off and watching as it slows).
BTW, mine is turning counter clockwise.
