Paul taught the word Jesus is the word. It is the same truth that God gave to Moses.

Everything that Paul knew of Jesus's teachings came from the source along with Divine inspiration. So No!

Kimo...

We ALL alter it. It is entirely possible that as Paul was telling the women in the back of the church to "shut up," that Our Lord was cringing and thinking to himself, "easy does it, Paul, folks are gonna get in trouble with that later."

But ALTERING something, meaning, "changing it," doesn't necessarily mean you've distorted it or corrupted it. With the exception of the Almighty and his Son, all the personalities of our testaments were HUMANS, and, while inspired, were no more assured of perfection in their thoughts and speech than anyone else.

Which leaves us, today, with the challenge of THINKING about what was really being said back then, and how it applies right NOW. That's why God gave us brains -to THINK.

So I'll put it back to you. Did Paul alter Jesus teachings? If so, how? If he did, was he inspired to do so by God himself? Did he advance the teachings to fit more closely with his times? Bear in mind that Jesus gave the keys to Peter and told him that whatever he does on earth will be bound in heaven. Talk about support for the front office!

Which says to me that we are EXPECTED to think about our relationship to God and with his teachers across the ages. And so ....think.

I would say that Paul developed Jesus' teaching. Paul has been called the second founder of Christianity. He wrote over a thirty-year period after the death of Jesus, and during that time he must have given a great deal of thought to who Jesus was and what he stood for. Paul never met Jesus face to face, of course. Paul's own ideas developed over the years and through his various letters. Paul's reflections about the nature of Jesus and the meaning of his life led to his belief that Jesus had saved the world from sin through his death on the cross.

By the way, the Gospel of John is another example of how the theology surrounding Jesus developed. The other three gospels are called "synoptic". This comes from Greek and means "seeing with the same eye". John's gospel is radically different, very lofty and poetic. It was written later than the other three, so once again there had been time for ideas about Jesus to develop into a more sophisticated form.

Paul never met Jesus. "Visions" aren't the same as meeting someone in person.

After his visions, he joined the Christian community of Jesus' disciples. Peter and James (the brother of Jesus) kicked him out for disagreeing about the life of Jesus and the meaning of just about everything Jesus taught.

Peter, James, and the other disciples of Jesus believed that Jesus came to preach to the Jews and only the Jews. They couldn't care less about the Gentiles. Despite that, they sent Paul to preach to the Gentiles. Obviously, this was just their way of excommunicating Paul from Jewish Christianity.

However, Jewish Christians were wiped out during the Jewish revolt against Rome in the first century. It is the Gentile Christians who survived and grew into modern Christianity. They retained their original emphasis on the teachings of Paul over those of Jesus and most of them today don't even realize it and will even ignore all evidence of it, as many of the other answers show.

In some way I think but It would seem to me that Pauls main minnistry was reaching the gentiles(non jews). Yet I do speculate a flaw in the english translation.

I read this man was a Jew who used to torture the followers of Jesus Christ(PBUH). Then he claims Jesus Christ appearing in dreams and asking to teach the Christians. It's just like Hitler after killing all Jews finally comes to save Jews.

Keep Paul and take the true teachings of Jesus Christ (PBUH). That was to worship one God of Abraham , Moses, David, Isac, Muhammad and all the Prophets of God Almighty. Trinity is contribution of Paul who by this have deceived much of Christianity. He added many Pagan beliefs into it. Just see Keeping a statue is not according to Abrahamic Faith, yet they have it everywhere.

Paul changed the teaching of Jesus and ascribed all this to his false visions.

That unlucky person has taken so many good people far away from God and his truthful message and humanity suffered so much.

Yes, and Paul never met Jesus personally and he started his mission based on his so-called visions, he gave a different meaning to the word Messiah and Son of God, this is why in Romans 15:20 he wrote that he preached the gospel in places where Christ has not been heard of, so as not to build on the foundation laid by those before him.

Yes, he did, profoundly. Interestingly enough he is named "the traitor" in some gospels who did not find their way into the bible at the Council of Nicea.
