What is the best professional digital SLR under USD 1200?

The Nikon D80 is a fantastic camera that meets your budget. There are many on-line reviews of this camera. Just google Nikon D80 reviews. I have several friends who are professional photographers who use the D80. The D200 and the D80 both use the same processor so their image quality is pretty near indistinguishable.

I love the Pentax cameras, especially the new K10D. But I would have to admit that the Nikon 200D is probably the best 'affordable' digital SLR. The Canons are just a bit too fiddly for my liking. But beware: you can get good deals on the basic camera, but if you want additional professional quality Nikon lenses, they can be VERY expensive. That's why I like the Pentax - the lenses are very good, and more affordable.
