I have pretty bad eyes, I have astigmatism in both eyes and nearsighted in one..

And wear a -0.5 -1.75 in one eye, and -6.25 in the other in contacts.

Just recently when I was on the computer, I noticed that parts to words, started to become missing, then when I looked around I noticed that I could only see half of everything really, and it looked sort of like, when you look into a bright light for too long, you see the light spot, except I havent looked at a light, just the computer screen.
I can barely see what I am writing on here.
Its only on the right eye, which is the one with nearsightedness, and the -6.25 one, that is "half blind"

I am also 26 weeks pregnant, and I know that your eyes change alot when your pregnant.

But what should I do?
I think I am going blind or something.
All day my head has sort of hurt too.

That is something that needs to be checked out now!! If you are having a partial blindness you retina could be detaching which can cause blindness. However you are pregnant so you can not get a dilation but you need to get to an ophalmologist NOW!!!! or you can risk your eye sight!

First the 'blindess'.

The diagnosis of your blindness is OCULAR MIGRAINE. also called an Ophthalmic Mirgraine. This occurs when there is a small wave of depolarization that moves across the occipital cortex (back of the brain). Takes about 20 minutes or so. Usually is NOT associated with headache. As it is a brain thing one one side, you notice a field defect on one side. I'd wonder if the high myopic side was from the myopia or because you are more aware of that limited field. As this migraine started centrally with loss of words, the other eye wasn't seeing the words either. Makes me 'think' it was both sides but right sided in location. The migration of the field loss is another clue that indicates that a migraine is the etiology or cause.

These mirgaines aren't really a bad thing as much as sort of scarey the first time or so. They're not associated with bad diseases or tumors, or cancers or strokes or ...

There are all sorts of sensational migraines including auditory (hear noise like a diesel engine) and olfactory (smell burnt rubber). They are benign.

The numbers: The numbers for your Rx, or my Rx are based on diopters. (Maybe one of the Optometrists could give us the 'real' terminology).

The Power of the lens or lens system is equal to one over the distance in meters (algebra keeps coming back).

P=1/d

So if your eyes are too powerful,.... then you see close to you but everything beyond that distance is a blur.

So if you are focused at one meter away, then you are +1.00 too strong. So you'd wear a -1.00 lens to neurtalize that power.

If you were focused at a half meter away, you'd be +2.00 too strong and would wear a -2.00 lens.

third of a meter -3.00
forth of a meter -4.00
fifth of a meter -5.00

1/6 of a meter is like you with your -6.25 Rx.

That means that you are focused at about 5 inches in front of your eye and things closer. But beyond that....very unfocused.

Enjoy the migraines, there's really no Rx or need for an Rx. Sometimes they are a signal or prodrome that a 'real' migraine is coming. But you'd already know that if you had those kinds, cuz they make life VERY difficult and there are medications such as Imitrex that if taken at the beginning of the migraine, make it less severe or not come at all.

The pregnancy and how you handle the hormonal changes can also cause variations in the focus of your lens. If your blood sugar goes way up as in gestational diabetes...the lens absorbs the sugar, pulls water into itself via osmosis, and the lens swells and you get more nearsighted. This is reversible so don't be going to get new glasses or a new Rx. By the time they come in a week or so, the lens will be back towards normal, or more swollen if the sugar is still high and you won't be able to see out of those lenses or contacts. And you'll think the doc is nuts cuz these aren't anywhere near right.

Nearsightedness and blindness are two different things.
Nearsighted is when you can't focus on objects from a safe distance you will know this if you are sitting too close to computer, television, or fine work.
This is a result the eye ball is shorter than normal.

Astimatism is when both far and near objects are blurry
and this is also what is causing your headaches. Once you get your glasses or lenses the problem should correct

Migraine does not last more than 20 to 30 minutes. If still not seeing to the right, you may have had a stroke. In any event, as you have not had this before you should see your family doctor as soon as possible.

Call your Doctor IMMEDIATELY & have this checked. If you can't get in to see your Eye Doc see your OBGYN but make sure one of them checks you out. Or go to the Emergency room....
