Sounds like a great tattoo. Only thing I would consider is: Are you planning on having kids in the future? If so, a tattoo on your stomach right below the hipbone will stretch during pregnancy.
As for the flower and bird idea, I personally would go color considering all the detail you are planning for it. I would keep the name out of it though. It already has enough meaning put into the design as is and you don't want to encomber it by trying to squeeze the name onto the flower.

I can only say this: Make sure it's something you want for the long haul. Having it removed later is not fun (should you want to) and takes numerous treatments to "potentially" remove it.
The smaller the tattoo the more of a "blob" it becomes down the road. I have a tatt where you want yours and it looks like a red and green mistake. Mine was a little bigger than the size of a quarter.
The fact that it has something to do with your Mom will most likely make you like it for a longer period of time because of the sentimental reasons for the tattoo.
If I had to do it all over again...no tattoos, at least not the permanent kind.

i think that's a great idea. i really like the meanings of both of your names. in about two months, i'm going in to get a tattoo for my mom and my dad, and i'm going to include hearts, flowers, and birds. i think if you got like a bird on the flower or even just closely associated with it, it would look nice. there are a lot of tattoo ideas out there of any flower of your choice and swallows or hummingbirds. you could get your moms name on the flower or on a banner, or a little heart in between the bird and flower? just talk to a tattoo artist and they could draw up really nice ideas for you, or you can do that too to find one that you really like. i really like color tattoos. you can use your mom's and yours favoite colors or just whichever would look the best. if you like black and white tattoos, then that would be great too, but i perfer colored ones. i dont think this is silly at all, and it's a great way to show you're close with your mom and it can be a beautiful tattoo. if for some reason in the future you didnt want it, then there's always the option of cover up tattoos, there's some really good artists that can cover up almost anything. i think this will be a great tattoo if you get it.

I think that's a great idea, and when you said that i imagined a humming bird with something like a lotus. i think that'd be really cute, and if done right, it could look classy as tattoos go. and its not cliche or silly or whatever, it just means that your mom means a lot to her. having a strong connection with your mother is nothing to be embarassed about, and if you think anyone would make fun u for the tattoo b/c of it, then just don't bother telling them what the tattoo's for. it'll just look cool, while being meaningful and symbolic for you. its win-win :D

Ask your mom to show you that spot on her body. Then ask her if it was once as firm as yours. What you'll find is that your skin stretches out as you get older, which makes that spot pretty bad if you want the design to look the same in 30 years. It's great that you want to honor your mom and all, but seriously, rethink the tattoo idea. You can also look at fashions and hairstyles and see how things change: you can change your hair and your clothes, but a tattoo is forever.

Not at all silly. But if your mom isn't OK with the idea it will cause you problems, even though you're 18. I personally don't like modifying my own body, but it can be a symbol of your love for one another for the rest of your life. Just be sure you get something you can look at for the rest of your life! The only way to remove them that I'm aware of leaves you scarred.
Use her favorite flower, and yourself drawn as a hummingbird drinking from the flower. Kind of symbolic of you learning from her and growing strong from her.

it is NOT painful. where you wanted it is where my sister has it and she said it was NOT painful at all. it was her 3rd tattoo though. but i don't know. i wouldn't think its painful but it could have problems with your liver or maybe even your bladder and stuff cause its by that area and if you get a cut their then yeah it goes through into the liver and maybe the bladder. but that is EXTREMELY rare. and that like never happened to anyone. so yeah thats nothing to worry about. sometimes tattoos are fun and since your doing it for your mother you should get it just since you guys are extremely close. well if thats how you say it/

Yes i think its a great idea. However, not so much on the hipbone. I think it would a cute idea to put it on one of your feet. it would be much more delicate that way..and when you're feeling at your lowest and your head's hanging down...youll see your feet and think of your mom.
Maybe do like vines rather than a flower and you could even spell out your mother's name with the vines.....but,.a flower AND a bird may be too much, ya know? ...or there's always a flying bird with a flower hanging on it's beak. ..
good luck!!!!!!!

if your mom is ok with tattoos then, yes that sounds cool, but people like my mom would not like the idea, cause she is against tattoos.

Just a thought here
I think it would be cute though:
A cute little flower, maybe her fav, on one hip.
A cute little bird, maybe your fav, on the other hip.
and if you want her name you can add it later but i think those two things would be enough. Remember you can add on but not erase.
