"the woman he (G*D) punishes with pain in childbirth"

I haven't given birth yet, so I can't say why there's a pain, all I know is in bible, human was made AFTER the animals, right?..and animals have male and female, right? the female animals didn't steal his fruit, right?....Why do the female animals have pains in child birth too? my neighbor's dog just died in child birth last week.

"In the sweat of your face you shall eat bread till you return to the ground."

All I know is every human sweats, not only man, but woman as well, many people still can't earn his living after sweating of his face.

Because female animals, to include humans, are pushing another being out through a much smaller passage. Meanwhile, the muscles are contracting (imagine intestinal cramps x20) to assist the process. Think about it. Why wouldn't it hurt?

I've had two children. With my first, I had no pain (good meds). With my second, I went natural. I can tell you that the pain of childbirth serves as an excellent reminder to push and give birth. Without the pain, as in my first labor, I needed to be told when to push. With my second, there were no reminders necessary.

The pain has nothing to do with being punished for the sins of Eve or any other such nonsense. The Bible was written by men, after all.

one theory is that if there was no pain at all, it would not help the mother bond with the child - if it 'slipped' out, the mother may have less regard for the baby!

personally, i believe there has always been some aspects of pain when giving birth, but because women have let themselves become the 'patients' of the medical "professionals", and lost their intuition and knowledge of the power of birth, the pain is felt much more thesedays. i have even read of a woman who read a magazine whilst under the influence of an epidural - WTF? how can that be a birth experience?!

our bodies are designed to carry our babies and give birth to them, with minimum intervention.
if we prepare ourselves mentally and physically, we can deliver our babies ourselves with little help.
but a combination of 1 -"godly fear/guilt[eve], 2 - the kings who wanted to see their babies being born so the doctors lay the women on their BACKS [lying down doesnt help- cocyx cant move back far enough to let baby out properly, hence many long labours], 3 - repression of women [yay for the suffragettes et el] and 4 - worship of all things medical,
has led to women forgetting that they can do this,
that it will hurt but you have natural ways of dealing with it and that if you can do it as naturally as possible you will feel better, labour easier and your baby will be more content.

of COURSE it is wonderful that if women NEED medical help thesedays, they can access it, and the mortality rate has fallen.
but how many women have been coerced into being induced so the doctor knows what days he can not come into work etc?
how many been given unnecessary episitomies/epidurals [side effects horrendous] and even C-sections?

thousands.

'god' didnt make childbirth painful, but sadly, many men have.
fortunately there are men who really understand

birth is a truly fabulous experience when it is in the right conditions.

no woman should fear it! it is our domain!

blessed be

You bring up a very valid point. If Eve (and all women after her) are being "punished" by God by having painful childbirth, then how would one explain why animals have painful births as well? You are right to question the things that don't make sense in the Bible. Remember, the Bible was written by men. Men who claimed to be inspired by God. But look at it this way: there are many people (religious leaders, etc) who also claim to be inspired by God. Some of them have been imprisoned for stealing from their churches. Others have molested or raped young children. How are we to really know who is inspired, and who is not? My suggestion to you is, keep questioning what you do not understand. If it feels wrong, it probably IS wrong. It's a good thing to think for yourself. God gave us many tools...a heart, a spirit, a brain, and all of our senses, plus our intuition to help us figure out what is right and what is wrong. There are things in the Bible that feel so wrong they could not have come from God. However, there are things in there that DO seem "divinely inspired." Trust yourself to figure out which are which. Blind faith is foolish. The path to true enlightenment is an individual journey. Take in knowledge of all you can, but don't be afraid to use what God has given you in order to find the truth. Listen to your heart, it will guide you.

There is an alternative child birthing method that is supposedly virtually pain free and reduces the trauma for both mother and child. Its called water birthing or giving birth in water. however most people reject alternative medicines so people end up going through more pain and suffering than they need to. Why do women have to endure pain in child birth? they choose to

Pain in childbirth happens to every lifeform in the animal kingdom. It's part of the process, not a punishment. Look how big some animal's babies are! I think we humans are lucky in comparison.

Like a lot of the others are saying; a large object passes through a small hole, and around that hole are many very sensitive nerve endings. You should try pre-birth yoga. I hear it helps.

It's because our brains are so big that the pelvic bones have to expand a lot for the baby's head to get through. If we were dumber, with smaller brains, we wouldn't have pain in childbirth.

Genesis 3:16 (NW) reads: “To the woman he said: ‘I shall greatly increase the pain of your pregnancy; in birth pangs you will bring forth children, and your longing will be for your husband, and he will dominate you.’” After she had sinned, Jehovah told the woman she would bring forth children in birth pangs. That meant pain for the sinner mother. So the promised increase of pain would indicate that fallen womanhood would undergo an increase of pain as the centuries passed, due to the accumulating degeneration and weaknesses that would cause increasing pain and ordeal. If this is the case, it would tie the increase of pain in with the sin that brought on degeneration in the first place, appropriately so. The nearer to perfection women were the less difficulty there would be for them in giving birth.

possibly because the child grows inside of you for nine months, until it is roughly the size of a watermelon and then you have to squeeze it out of a hole the size of a gumball?
