theromostates are there so you can get heat in the winter. It also makes the engine wun at the proper temp to get the best gas milage. Making it run to cold or to hot will make it run off.

Thermistors are electronic devices that will change resistance with an increase in temperature. they can be used to measure the temperature of the engine, the air temp of the incoming air, cabin air temp, or anywhere you need to find out how hot something is.

Ya may mean a ' thermostat ' ( ? ) It's a temperature sensitive valve for the cooling system.
