tie a feather to the end of a rope and throw it in the pipe/cupboard or anywhere and slowly pull it towards you, maybe she'll follow it

Hi Catherine,
God, you must be going out of your mind - I understand completely.
I am thinking that if she can get in the hole, she can get out. I would try enticing her with tuna or wet food that smells great - even the rattle of a toy ball with a bell in it, that always brings my kitten to me when I can't find her in my apartment. You could also try shining a flashlight down there and perhaps dangling a toy down that makes some kind of noise. Hopefully she will hear it, then see where it's coming from and follow the light and sound.
If she's not back by the end of today, perhaps you can call the RSPCA and ask for advice. They have most likely had experience with cats going under the floorboards before. You may have to take some time off work (if you work) though - she could very well come back up whilst you're out, eat the food and then disappear again. Also, when walking around, try to walk gently as all the pounding of feet may frighten her underneath the floorboards.
Hopefully you are living in a house, in which case she must be somewhere in your home. To be quite honest, I'd call the RSPCA because I wouldn't be able to rest and they can give you advice. It may be a case of unscrewing and removing a few floorboards in each room.
I really hope you find her - please let me know, if it's not too much trouble.
xx Emmie

Hopefully the gap only leads to a dead space, meaning no outside exit. Often, kittens will seek a safe and quiet place to hide once they enter a new place. This is now a good time to look around and child proof your place.
She may be coming out at night to get the food, and then returning. Can you tell if the food has been touched? You could see if you can get a humane trap to get her, and then close up the opening.
One of my kittens first climbed up my clothes and hid on the top shelf of the closet. Then on the window still behind a door, and then on top of the refrigerator. Once she became comfortable with the new surroundings, she was out more.
If no sign in a couple of days, you will need to try and find out where she is, and that includes tearing apart some things to open up spaces to see where she is.

Firstly may i just say to cpinatsi who left an answer - - in future you heartless cow, if you've nothing of value to this person to add - - shut the f**k up! People like you make the rest of us sick, this poor person is worried sick and this is NOT her fault! Who on earth ' kitten proofs ' their house? ****. Sorry, back to your problem, please ignore negative comments like that, their not clever or funny and certainly of no use to you! In some cases it is true that if kittens get themselves in a space, they can get back out again but sometimes, and please dont panic at this, they cant! But there are ways to help her get out. Do as the others have suggested and leave some smelly fish dinner near that hole, she'll soon get hungry! Turn off your tv and stereos and anything that makes a noise and listen for her miaowing or scratching. If you can pinpoint her anyway under the floor of the wall cavity tap the place where she is and keep tapping all along to the hole she went in by, she may just follow your noise. As a last resort, if she's in that hole for longer than two days ( she is only still a baby ) you will have to take the floor up or smash the wall in. If you live in the UK, the RSPCA will help you with this as will the fire brigade. I'm sorry but if you live in the US i dont know of any services over there that will help you but i'm sure there is some. This is not your fault, kittens are inquisitive, nosey little creatures and you cant possibly watch them all the time. remember too that cats have nine lives!!!

you did nothing wrong so dont blame yourself. try and see if you can find out where the pipe leads to. incase it leads outside put up notices. are you sure that she has gone down there? have another look. is there any way that she might still be in the house but in another room? if there is nowhere else she can be try leaving down a bit of smelly food. or cook some fish and meat makeing sure that the smell drifts down there. if she does not turn up after a days, its time to decide whether you want to pull the floorboards up. your immediate answer should be yes. so do that. if/when you see her approach her slowly and talk to her. she doesnt know you yet so be careful. if she is not there search around. by the way, you shouldnt be able to buy a nine week old cat... she is too young. i dont blame her for finding a plcae to hide.

Put something down there for her to follow out, using the torch to give her some light, if that doesn't work, she may come out on her own when she's hungry as long as she can. Leave out fresh food and water for her and she may surrpise you and just appear in a few hours. If she doesn't, you may have to get someone in to pull up the floorboards and resuce her that way, however you get her out, block the hole up afterwards to avoid a reoocurance!
Hope this helps.

I'm sorry to hear that. You better figure out a way to get her out, because if she dies in there the smell will be really really bad. I agree with the person who said to lure her out with wet cat food. If you live in an apartment building, she may be able to get through the walls into another apartment, so it would be worth putting up some flyers to let people know, and call the super and see if anything can be done.

Hi. We have a new kitten. Was very shy and hid behind the cooker. Came out eventually for food. You're kitten is much younger and probably very frightened. I read on the internet that although tuna is not too good for cats the smell is like a drug to them. Had to get our kitty in to take to vets and tuna worked a treat. Someone else told me sardines are good too. Good luck! Please let us all know how you got on.

I have a funky hole like that in my cupboard! My two cats used to go in there when they were kittens. She'll probably climb her way out by morning, and is probably taking a nice nap right now where no people can get to her. If you haven't seen her by this afternoon, I might start to worry and call people to go in and get her (maybe try luring her out first) so that she won't be stuck in there too long.

She will come out eventually! my kitten hid behind my washing machine for three days until I realised that leaving the food out wasn't a good idea, he was popping out to eat when I wasn't looking then going back in, take the food away and she will come out when she is hungry.
If she can get in, she can get out! if you a very worried or the food you left out has gone untouched then try calling the RSPCA or your vet for advice.

you have got to let us know how this turns out. I'm very upset because I think your kitten is under the floor and I don't know how you get it back up. Maybe try putting some stinky canned food near the hole. You HAVE TO kitten proof your house, which includes looking in advance for holes and patching them up before something like this happens. I'm very sorry, this isn't good. I will say a prayer for you and your kitten.
