First dates should typically be dinner at decent restaurant,NOT in a dimly lit intimate setting.

Stick to the basics
Books, Music, Movies, Hobbies.

STAY AWAY from "The Big Three"
Politics,Religion, and Sex

Don't go into long term goals, pet peeves, phobias,or children
(unless you already have kids).

Talk about your job when asked, but don't complain about it, or gossip about co-wokers.
Don't even think about discussing salaries, and if your date asks,RUN fast and far
(Gold digger alert).

Keep it light, remember the purpose of a first date is to find out if there is enough common interests,to warrant a second date, not to see if this person is "THE ONE FOR YOU"

You should't even begin to think about marriage until you are at least 30( Your twenties are for sleeping with all the WRONG people)

Telling your life story along with all kinds of other info about you is too much. Just give info that is basic and common for a first date. And its better to get info by showing interest then if theres no interest in your info just give a little info. but the more interest there is in your info. the more you give but stop your self and show back interest in their info unless you say something that has them respond by giving you more info even if they cut you off.

MOstly inappropriate to discuss how many sexual partners for one, and any drama that is in your life--skip that topic too. Try to stick to the things that make you smile--that way the person will see how beautiful you are when you are happy. THIS is the way they are going to try and keep you if you guys grow into anything long-lasting. If you appear to be a sex kitten--thats how you'll be treated, if you act or appear to be dramatic--they will always BRING you drama. YOU set the atmosphere to how YOU (genuinely) want to be treated!!

Very personal things. Just get to know the likes and dislikes, and about their family first. The most personal details, and bad habits should be saved for a serious relationship.

Joking about what someone's dog cried out while getting hit by a car, will probably do it.
