So, I was reading my Bible and starting thinking about some things--Scientists think that all our continents used to be one, hence Pangea--in the old testiment when God struck down the tower of Babel and confused their languages, perhaps this is when the continents broke apart....Also, if a 1,000 years to us is a day to God, then technically it's only been 2 days since Jesus left the Earth--just some ideas that hit me when I was reading my Bible the other day. What is your thought on these thoughts?

I think probably that it took time for the continents to part. Much of the land has changed since creation. Maybe the flood caused it?

1,000 years is but a day to God. Probably means that our human lives are so short and God has been here so long that 1,000 years seems like it is 1 day to Him. He tells us that our lives are but a vapor. To God it probably has only been like two days since Jesus was here.

Someone stated that the earth was millions of years old. The earth is only about 6,000 years old. Adam and Eve brought death to the world because of their disobedience to God. If the world were millions of years old, creatures would have died before Adam and Eve were even here. The fall of mankind is the reason that Jesus came to save us from sin and death.

It is fun to try to learn more and more about God's word. Good thinking.

you're not to first to have that thought about the tower of babel and pangea. i would encourage you to take a look at the site below and check into it. i've never read about it myself, or checked to see if they even cover that theory, but they do cover a lot of theories like that, and they voice their opinion on why it would or wouldn't work and whether it is scriptural or not. my brother told me something like that a long time ago, so that's how i know there's a theory that deals with pangea and the tower of babel. personally, i believe pangea was split into the seven continents during the pre-adamic period, between genesis 1:1 and 1:2, but i won't get into that right now.

also, i think ''a thousand years'' means something more like ''a large but unspecified amount of time.'' that being said, one day to God could be like ten days or twenty minutes or a million years to us. God dwells in eternity, and i think the verse(s) you are referring to were written the way they were because we can't fully relate to eternity or infinity, given what we percieve with our human senses. God is planning on doing what He's already done, and He's doing it right now. just like the idea of the Holy Trinity, the concept of eternity is a little too difficult for us to wrap our heads around, so the psalmist wrote what he did in order to make it a bit more relatable to us. great question.

I think the continents broke apart at the time of the flood
Gen 7:11.. all the fountains of the great deep were broken up, and the windows of the heavens were opened up.
Babel occured AFTER the flood, so that is our origin of different languages, but not the continents drifting apart.
1000 years=day to God
God is not linear=He is not ruled by time like we are. That is one of the most common verses that is taken out of context to justify all kinds of nonsense.

Try this out...

The world before the great flood was on a continent that no longer exists to us. The flood was a local flood that decimated an island out in the middle of the Indian Ocean somewhere, and that Island was the only place where life existed. Now the ark floated aimlessly for a long time, so the currents could have carried it to what we call the Mesopotamian Basin, but the original world is somewhere under the sea that we have never found. That's my "Atlantis" flood hypothesis, and I have absolutely no support for it whatsoever scientifically or scripturally.

And seriously, I'm not gonna waste time trying to explain how out of context you are taking some of this stuff.

I wouldn't want to be dogmatic about it, but there is an interesting verse set among the geneologies in Genesis.

Genesis 10:25 Two sons were born to Eber; the name of the one was Peleg, for in his days the earth was divided; and his brother's name was Joktan.

The verse doesn't just say the people were divided and scattered over the earth. It says the earth was divided. This portion of the geneology is after the flood, possibly in the time of the city of Babel, but the exact time is not certain.

Except that humans didn't exist yet when Pangea was around. We hadn't evolved yet. And it didn't just explode apart, and other cultures weren't born in a second-- it takes thousands of years to build up a culture and all. Trust science-- it may not have all the answers, but the stuff you're asking about is easily explained.

well, one of the more interesting thoughts that came to mind the other day, was that Psalm by David that says: "You knit me together in my mother's womb.", and the DNA chain molecule looks like a knitted scarf. A really long one. Longer than Dr. Who's (The OLD Dr Who....but not the oldest Dr Who)

you're theory about the tower of Babel could be right...... because the crust of earth do move due to the different volcanic and earthquake activities..... However, I would like to give emphasis on your second theory...... well, it doesn't matter if for God, Jesus died or went to heaven..... because what matters most is that, God love us so much that he gave up his only son as our Savior..... Well, God, is very strong and powerful, for me, so probably, 2000 years would only mean two days for him...... hehehehehehehehehe

except that pangea broke apart over the course of millions of years - if it had happened in a mere few thousand years it would pretty much kill all life on earth.
