Yes: when playing an intense video game, your body will release chemicals like epinephrine, adrenaline, etc. These chemicals act on various parts of the body, affecting not only heart rate, but breathing rate, blood pressure, pupil dilation, and many others.

yeah you may have increased anxiety near the bad guy or just generalized tension throughout==increased heart rate.
