Watch the movie Hairspray during Black History Month? I mean, it's a newer(well the new one is....but the 80s isn't that old) movie, good music, and it teaches an important message of acceptance of others that aren't like you....even when everyone else you're friends with and even you family says not to.

Huh....now isn't that a message R&S needs, except from black and white to believers and non-believers?

I think yo umean American History X....and that's a little TOO graphic for public schools...you now wit hthe opening sex scene, the murder of 2 blacks by a neo-nazi...oh and the rape of the main character in the showers.....yeah that's a better one...

Well actually since it's PG they shouldn't need the parent's permission...atleast not in my county...we can even watch clips of rated R movies, as long as they're approved by the principal first.

I'd say that's up to the individual teachers. If they think it's a good idea, they can do it, if parents approve...

There are movies out there with far more social importance than 'Hairspray.' Maybe 'Roots' , 'The Ghosts of Mississippi' or 'Malcolm X,' but definitely not 'Hairspray.'

Hairspray? I think there are several other movies out there about acceptance with better messages.
