Thermopile sensors are used in non-contact thermometers. The infra-red (IR) from the object is a function of temperature. IR is focused on the thermopile with lens, so the temperature of an object can be measured without having to touch the object.

Thermopile sensors are multiple thermocouple junctions in series. Try google to find sources.
