I do believe that I believe in God. I feel spiritual at times. However I do not believe in the Bible, I completely disagree with organized religion and when someone preaches to me I either fall alseep or feel the need to defend athiests. I call myself agnostic but since I do believe in God I don't feel that is the correct term really. But there doesn't seem to be another term that is even close. Someone just told me that it is not possible to believe in God yet not be religeous in some way. Not really sure how to word the question here. I guess I just want to know how others think - can a person believe in God yet completey abhor religion & disregard the Bible as rubbish.
You should also know that while I believe in a God I do not believe that He/She/It/Whatever is all powerful. What do you think? Please would like answers from all - religious people, agnostics, and athiests. Thanks in advance.

many people believe in what they call a higher power which i think is basically what your saying you believe. something intelligent in a nonspecific form that is more powerfull(although not necessarily all powerfull) and knowledgable than humankind. i think its stupid that someone said that you cannot believe in god and not be religious in some way. what is there defenition of religious anyway? my belief is that all religions basically have the same message. be kind, compassionate, and forgiving. if your sticking to that basic thread i think your religious enough.

I understand why you wouldn't want to believe in organized religion. It has for centuries been a source of corruption. But in saying that there can only be one truth. God can only exist in one way possible. This iis much like saying 1 + 1 = 2. This is an objective fact and no one disagrees.

I certainly won't preach, but I will say you probably aren't even aware that there is an objective truth out there... whether that be the Athiest, Muslim, or Christian teaching, or whatever. Only one can be right. I will explain in the last paragraph.

In saying that Agnosticism is basically sitting on the fence unable to make a decision at all, being unable to commit to an believing there is an objective truth. Agnosticism isn't really even a belief because they believe that they don't know what to believe... so they have nothing at all.

If I were you, and were open to figuring out what the truth is, I would research a bunch of religions with an open mind, but not asking what they believe but WHY they believe it. Can it be backed up by fact, or is it all just opinion?

Finally I will say that believing in one God, while not believing He is all powerful is a contradiction to logic and reason. Let me explain:

If God is the source of everything, He can create and therefore obtain without limit every perfection that He can even conceive of. This goes for power, beauty, whatever.

And you probably could believe in God and not believe in organized religion, but that isn't really putting much confidence in God, since He is able to create you and sustain you physically every second of your life, but doesn't have the power or care enough about you -after all that- to reveal Himself to you..

Hope this helps.

Please don't try to assume blame for being a sensitive, rational, realistic, intellectual, and complex human being. It is my personal opinion that you are NOT missing any signs, because there are no logical signs that point to a Catholic, Christian, or ANY kind of god! If you DO find any signs of truth, by all means follow them until they make you happy! I can honestly tell you, however that I am living proof of happiness through freedom! I am not a bad person, and I live my life in accordance with all the morals of Christians, and THEN SOME! But I freed myself of the bondage of religion and belief, and I have never been happier! The obligation to believe is not a reason to feel anything but misery and hypocrisy! The choice to NOT believe is daunting at first--everyone would love to believe that this is not all there is! But your own search has led you nowhere, and that is not a good place to be, or a great way to feel! At the risk of sounding heretical, I'm going to tell you to be your own lord, god and master! This world is all we know, and all we will EVER know, no matter what anyone tells you. Put yourself in the 'here and now', and don't feel as though you are obliged to put all of your eggs in the faith basket! What I mean to tell you is this: if god really wants you, he knows where to find you! Don't waste one more second in "limbo"! Free yourself from the bonds of faith, and live an exemplary life! If there is a god, he knows what's in your heart, and he will choose you anyway! Shine your best light, live a great, productive life, and everything else will take care of itself, okay? Now go out there and LIVE!

I have a similar belief to you. I believe that there is somthing there, some kind of god or gods, but in which one i dont know. Written scripts from most religions seems so out of date and not with the moden times. If the gods can "see into the future" and know what will happen as some say, then why write such outdated things in scripts. So i choose not to believe in those religions. But i do believe there is more in this world than what we know about and some kind of spirit greater than what we know about scientifically.

How you are describing yourself is a lot like our American Indians thought, isn't it? They believed in a god, or many, but had no bible to guide them. They were pretty spiritual, too. I, too, abhor organized religion and it took many church visits to find one that didn't sound like a cult to me. But I always have believed in the Bible and it is my "handbook for life". So, you believe in A god, but don't adhere to any commandments, etc? You just go by moral answers? Actually, I'm getting a feeling you are more christian than atheist, right? No matter who your god is, is it possible to ask him for understanding for yourself? Good luck in finding the right answers.

I am christian but I don't think you need to believe in an organized religion to be "saved."

The truth is that no religion has more credibility than the other.
So if God wanted us to believe in a certain set of beliefs,
wouldn't he have made it clear to all the people today?

I understand he made his apperances thousand years ago,
but that doesn't apply to us.

No one is more special than the other,
so why not us?

God will forgive.
and God will accept anyone who calls for him.
Not people who call for the Bible.

People say bs
to get you to comform to their ways.

God is always God.
Religion is always formed by humans.

There's the difference.

problem is what is your conceptualization of the word god what do you mean , a higher intelligence as Einstein thought or some incomprehensible being that fits anything you like or perhaps the ultimate realizations of mankind evolved past all ignorance and evil . you should have something more in mind than just the word god without explanation .add another o and you will have good which is where I usually focus .

It is possible because there are many gods out there. Some worship Satan as a god. So be careful. But I do need to warn you only by trusting in the Lord Jesus Christ and being saved you can not enter the kingdom of Heaven. If you do not believe in this I am sorry.

Find a way to not believe in god. Ways to prove he isn't real:
Shout for him
Pray to him
Ask him to help you through something
Read all atheistic websites that disprove his existence (www.whywontgodhealamputees.com)
etc.
The list goes on. I didn't consider myself an atheist until about 3 months ago. I was always agnostic. I went on and read about scientific discoveries and researched atheistic beliefs online, and I came to the conclusion that not only god isn't real, but the bible is the most dangerous book on the face of the planet.

You are actually contradicting all your so-called beliefs. Why would you want to believe in a God who is not all-powerful? As far as the bible goes, it is what teaches us all about the God we believe in. Now, concerning religion, it's not about being religious, because that doesn't accomplish anything. It's about your faith in Jesus Christ.
