Well, school is about to start up again and i keep telling myself i need to get me and the kids up early to get used to it again because we've been sleeping in all summer, here is the thing, i try so hard to get up early but i just can't so we end up sleeping late, then at night we are not tired because we slept so late, so we stay up late again, then we can't get up early becaue we are so tired from staying up late because we slept late.....does this make sense?...lol....get my meaning?...so, do i force myself up early so then we will be tired and we'll go to bed at a decent hour or what?...any suggestions?...i sound like a crazy person asking this.....i think i'm just tired.......Good night.

If you know ahead of time that you need to alter your sleep patterens, you are very lucky. As for me, it is not always easy to just get up eailer or to go bed earlier. I have noticed that most people need to be worn out almost to the point of droping before they can make the change. First chance you get, get busy. Inside, outside does not matter. Go find something to do all day, something that is both phyical and mental. Make it fun, go to the park, river, or any where you want. Do it for about three days, you will find that if you all plan it, it will help everyone get up each day. This is where you start getting up earlier each time. The first day you might find you are ready to take a nap, bad idea. Stay up at least until one hour past your target time. After the third day you will start your new patteren. Getting up is always easier when you have something fun to do, do it all day, and you will find you want to get to sleep sooner to get up sooner to do it again . Other wise you are forced into it. This makes you grumpy and everyone is on your last nerve. That is not realy good. I am working two jobs and have been up and going for 19 hours. Try the easy way first and have fun.

My kids are 4 & 6 and we've done the same thing! It's hard to break the cycle! I totally know what you are saying & it really p*sses my hubby of more than anything! I've gotten us all on a "regular" schedule by (&I'm going to sound crazier than you!!) staying up later &later, instead of getting up earlier. For about a week we wake up at really weird times, but it's easier for me to have my kids stay up a couple hours longer than to have them get up a couple hours earlier! They just keep fallling back to sleep & are really grumpy! So, the whole process takes like 1 1/2 weeks, but seems to be the only way we can do it. Now I just gotta figure out how to keep it there once I get there. Does that make sense? I'm doing it again right now infact! Tonight we woke up at midnight, tomorrow probably 2 or 3 am & the next day 4 or 5 am. When we reach waking up at 6-7am, I'm going to try to keep it there. I'm not tired & I can't make sense so don't feel bad! This probably isn't the smartest way, but like i said, it's the only thing that works for us, so I thought I'd pass it on!

Make up a bedtime routine chart with times.
Follow it---bath,brush teeth,pajamas,bed.
Start setting the alarm clock for the time when they would have to get up in the morning. If nothing else use the time in the morning to go for walks.
I know what you mean about the tiredness. I am the same way.
Don't let them or yourself sleep late. If it's Saturday or Sunday that's ok, but not during the week.
Good luck and I hope this helps.

If they've got a good sleep cycle, moving it isn't too hard.
About a week before school starts get em up early, no matter what. Put em to bed early that night.
Keep it up.
Within a day or two they'll be on a school schedule.

Get an alarm clock (lol). If you teach yourself and your kids how to go to bed early then you can wake up early. Since school is about to start you should have them go to bed about 9pm, and since you can not wake up early you should go to bed at 10pm. If you start this every night and set your clock for 6am you can all get up and start your morning routine and learn how every day.

You just all need to get up early no matter what time you went to bed and then *stay* up however tired (no napping!) until the normal schoolday bedtime - then you will be back in routine and you must stick to it.That's why I kept my boys to the same routine schooldays or not but that's just how I did it.
Good luck!
