If you live where you were born, go to the probate court in the county where you were born. They will give you (sell you) a certified copy with a seal that can be used for all legal needs.

If you do not live where you were born, you can use your search engine for vital records. There are a number of cites that will get you a certified birth certificate. If you need it quickly, it costs much more than if you can wait.

If you're from the US try locating the county/city clerk's office in the city/county of where you were born. (some states have it in the city's office others in the county) They should have a file of all living births somewhere (or they'll refer you to who does). You may also need to know the hospital where you born. Also, it can take up to six weeks and it may cost you some $$$. (Mine cost $10)

forget any websites. contact the department of health/ records in the capital city of the state in which you were born. you'll need to know certain information like where you were born, who your parents are, etc. it'll cost you from 10-20$ - it's worth it. get an extra one, just in case.
