Yes, this is one of the central ways we can enter into the work of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is moving in ways we cannot comprehend with our flesh, even if our flesh is somewhat submitted to the Lord Jesus.

When we speak in tongues we begin to sense the presence of God in a palpable way, and we are able to minister to others from the Love of God, not just from the thoughts of our minds or hearts. Furthermore, the Holy Spirit is our Counselor and Comforter -- speaking in tongues or or "prayer language", however you want to define it, was never meant to be some rare thing to do. It was the tangible gift given at Pentacost for all believers.

Somehow a dispensationalist spirit has lead many people to believe that it's some strange, bizarre or heretical thing to do, when in reality it's as clear as day in scripture. So, I would encourage you to keep praying in tongues, not for the sake of praying in tongues, but because by this form of prayer, you know the Love of the Father more accurately, because the Spirit is praying through you and revealing all things to you!

God Bless you.

No. I believe the purpose of speaking in tongues was so that the gospel could be preached among the foreign nations. If everyone around you speaks the same language, it is pointless. Unless someone else can actually understand what you are saying, it would be pointless. By yourself, in the spirit, great, fine. But in public - 1 Corinthians 14 has alot to say on this matter.

Do you? Then what are you saying?
If no-one understands it then it is just babbling in vein - which is a sign of the devil.
I don't understand why main-stream religion is so deceived on this subject. Speaking is tongues refers to the disciples inspired to speak in an gathering of different cultures and they all were able to hear and understand the message being given.
The Bible is clear that when the Holy Spirit speaks (in/thru a man) is it clear and UNDERSTANDABLE.
The fits of ridiculous noise spewing from so-called 'christian' worshipers is comparable to the uncontrolled flailings of those hyped up at a satanic voodoo ceremony.

Acts
Chapter 2

1 And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.

2 And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.

3 And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them.

4 And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

5 And there were dwelling at Jerusalem Jews, devout men, out of every nation under heaven.

6 Now when this was noised abroad, the multitude came together, and were confounded, because that every man heard them speak in his own language.

7 And they were all amazed and marvelled, saying one to another, Behold, are not all these which speak Galilaeans?

8 And how hear we every man in our own tongue, wherein we were born?

9 Parthians, and Medes, and Elamites, and the dwellers in Mesopotamia, and in Judaea, and Cappadocia, in Pontus, and Asia,

10 Phrygia, and Pamphylia, in Egypt, and in the parts of Libya about Cyrene, and strangers of Rome, Jews and proselytes,

11 Cretes and Arabians, we do hear them speak in our tongues the wonderful works of God.

12 And they were all amazed, and were in doubt, saying one to another, What meaneth this?

If the people around you can't understand you, you are not speaking in tongues.

Paul/Saul did claim that the babble he incited people to do was speaking in tongues, supposedly the language of God which he could translate.

No. The Bible does say a gift of the spirit is talking in tongues. I have been in a church where people were speaking in tongues, and there was an interpreter there, too. Kinda cool, I thought.

When you guys speak in tongues, why do you make sounds that exist only in the English language? It just doesn't make sense to me, but then again, not much you guys do does make sense to anyone not afraid of logic and reason.

I don't know what "tounges" are, but one tongue is quite enough for me.

Nor do I hallucinate, so I would say that the answer to your question is a rousing NO.

What do you talk about in tounges? Do you even know what you are saying?
What good is talking in tounges when no one understands you?

I do in my sleep. Scares others around me quite often because the tongue is Latin. That its in the form of an argument with someone unseen seems to be the biggest scare.
