I like a lot of older movies, so...

The Court Jester
The Three Musketeers (70s version)
The Four Musketeers
Most of the Monty Python movies
The Ten Commandments and other biblical movies of the late 50s, early 60s

The top four I like for the rapid, sharp humor - you've got to be able to follow it to find those movies funny. the Musketeers movies also have this side commentary going on by the servants and coutiers that's not part of the main script and you have to pay attention to hear it, but it's hilarious.

The Biblical movies? The production - such a grand scale those movies were done on! All the special effects that were state of the art at the time, the sheer numbers of people required - the exodus scene alone - amazing. And then there's Yul Brunner -

So let it be written, so let it be done.

Classic.

Tie. Interview with the Vampire and Fight Club.

No, I'm not normally a Brad Pitt fan, but IwtV was an awesome adaptation of the first book of my favorite series. A shame we didn't get a similar presentation of The Vampire Lestat (the best in the series), instead of that craptacular Queen of the Damned.

Fight Club... it's just magnificent. I don't know why more of Chuck Palahniuk's books haven't been made into movies. Choke or Survivor would be perfect.

The 5th Element.

Luc Besson's (director/producer) best work ever. Gaultier did all the costumes. Bruce Willis. Milla Jovovich. Gary Oldman. Stunning action sequences, dizzying special effects, sly humor, brilliant editing, and an intriguing underlying mythos about good vs. evil and how only love can save the day.

Wonderful. I've watched it 20+ times.

You Can Count on Me

starring: Mark Ruffalo, Laura Linney, Matthew Broderick, Kieran Culkin

Incredible acting, heartbreaking story line, pertinent themes (spiritual wandering, emotional addiction, loneliness, the current void of modernity, family brokenness), and an overall great ensemble cast with delightfully gut-wrenching and truthful scenes.

Check it out if you like real "films," not just "movies" =)

"A.I.: Artificial Intelligence".

So beautiful and so sad, even if its logic is dream-logic most of the time... Haley Joel Osment is perfect as the doomed Mecha child David, and Jude Law is equally flawless as the beautiful and amoral Gigolo Joe. It's a story about the nature of love that, while the movie itself is set in the future, is inherently timeless and utterly tragic.

It's also a movie with a deep moral question at its heart: Does love offered to us involve the obligation to love in return? Different characters address this question in different ways, some of them in ways that are quite heartless, others in ways that are unexpectedly touching.

I've seen in sixteen times, and cried at the end every single darned time.

Pride and Prejudice!

The romance, the struggle. Will Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy ever reveal their feelings of true love for each other? *sighs* only in the movies!
