Personally I am agnostic. So basically that means I have not made up mind on the existence of God. But from what I can see - people who do believe i God do have a somewhat easier of time of dealing with the big tragedies in life. Whether their faith is blind or real or half hearted - they have that faith to turn to in their hour of need.
For non-believers I do be live it is harder for them to accept the painful parts fo life.
But for non-believers they do have more open minds and have learned to think for themselves rather than allowing the church to tell them what they can and can not believe in. So it's a toss up as to who has it easier so to speak.
And neither is better than the other - just different with different issues to deal with.

I agree that hope is part of it, but hope is pointless unless you know the reality of what you are living.

All it takes is an open mind and heart to understand the incredible life, enlightenment and peace that transcends all understanding. All that takes is a simple and real relationship with God.

God is a complicated being, and he's also not. He never changes, and so no matter who you are, what you do, or what you become, he loves you. He is more incredible than the world that he Created.

Humans were made to recognize design. No one walks through the woods and finds a watch on the ground, then picks it up and says "Look what the rain, wind and elements have made by chance!!" A watch is such a simple device compared to the incredible complexity of a living organism. Science has told us that it would take approximately 50,000 changes for one animal to evolve into another. That's 50,000 times that someone spun a wheel with more than a million possibilities on it, and each one of the 50,000 pieces happened to work with each other perfectly! I don't mean to attack evolution, but to show the awe that is God's incredible creations.

God loves us so much that he gives each one of us the choice to love him or reject him, and every person on earth has to make that choice at one time in their life. Every single person feels the presence of God and the display that he has set in place for each one of us. He doesn't force you to love him because all love must be voluntary or it's not real.

A life without God is completely void of meaning. Evolution says plainly that you are a freakish mistake of chemical combinations, and it really is better if you were dead because you are doing nothing but taking up resources that some other worthless creature could be using to get ahead in a life that will end tragically anyways. You're born, you try to stay alive until you die. How sad is that? If I really am worthless, at least let me believe something else so I'm not depressed until I die and end my pathetic pursuit to survive! And for goodness sake, don't be so cruel as to take that hope away from me.

Life is so much better that is hard to put into words. I no longer fear death because I know that this is not the end...I will be raised by the Holy Spirit and live forever with God..How wonderful that is to think about. It is more than hope, it is total faith in God to do what he promised. I wake up each morning and know that if this is my last day on Earth, that I will be with him,,in spirit.."To be absent from the body, is to present with the Lord"...Christians have the right to be the happiest people on Earth....We didn't deserve this but a wonderful Father, decided to give us unmerited favor..Grace.

Amazing Grace, how sweet the sound,
That saved a wretch like me....
I once was lost but now am found,
Was blind, but now, I see.

T'was Grace that taught...
my heart to fear.
And Grace, my fears relieved.
How precious did that Grace appear...
the hour I first believed.

Oh to go back to the hour I first believed..I knew that I had found something out that all the knowledge in the world could not reveal...God was real and he knew me....me!

An excerpt from "gotquestions.org" might help explain this...

"All the religions of the world are an attempt to give meaning and definition to life. They are born out of the fact that mankind desires something more than simply existing. Behind all religions is a fundamental belief that there must be more to life than simply this physical existence that we now know. Through religion, people are looking for assurance and hope for the future, for forgiveness of sins, for peace in the midst of our struggles, and for answers to our deepest questions [a set of moral standards]. Religion is really evidence that mankind is more than simply a highly evolved animal. It is evidence of a higher purpose, and the fact that there is indeed a personal and purposeful Creator, who implanted into man the desire to know Him."

Belief in God gives a meaning to life, a definition to what the purpose of life is.... it helps to answer our deepest questions.

Fully 90% of the world's populations believe in God, gods or some supreme/superior/divine being. Without that belief, it is difficult to give meaning and purpose to life... etc... to give us standards of right/wrong... all those things... It is what helps mankind be more than just an animal.

I hope this helps... but I know I'll get lots of thumbs down from atheists who feel "offended" that I have now said that they have:

1-no meaning and purpose to life
2-no standards of right/wrong
3-are just an ani.... no wait.. they DO think that we are just animals, some even think that animals are superior to humans... so forget this point.

No... I am not saying they have "NONE" of these things... only that it is more difficult to define these things without a belief in a god.

Have a blessed day.

If you believe in a God, then you believe in some type of afterlife. Without that belief the end of life means the end of your existance. To know that your existance is fininte and then to consider what you have accomplished, is it enough? Have you lived your life to the fullest each moment and treasured every instant? Do you have any regrets? Those who believe in god know that this life is just a small part of eternity and there is much more to be experienced beyond the existance of the flesh. Their adventure is just beginning, athiests realize theirs will end all too soon.

Better. I disagree with the one on here who says the faithful ARE because they don't want to take responsibility for their actions as you see I am not of any root religion associated to Judaism, that makes "laws" then makes excuses as being God's will when breaking them. I am of the faith in Amen who happens to be the Lord of Creation long before any religion thought of plagerizing this belief from the ancient Egyptian faith.

Before "God" I was in organized crime, a drug and alcohol addict and got to the point of facing 15 to life in prison. I couldn't hold a job, a marriage or good relationship with anyone.

Now, I have been off drugs and alcohol 22 years, been married the same amount of years, held the same job for 11 years, live honestly, and people don't avoid me wondering whether I am going to kill them or not. I could never do this when I tried to believe in a God who DICTATED you obey or else as I tried to be a christian many times again after being one in childhood. When a marine friend of mine told me he found Amen when he was a POW and this faith got him through the war, and helped him to become a rich man I thought he was full of it. I tryed it anyway after being told I had MS and faced a grim future. That was 17 years ago while in a wheelchair WHICH I no longer NEED.........You decide if the "real" GOD in heaven makes a difference .....

It's not necessarily 'better' in the material or ordinary human sense of the word, so if that's the kind of confirmation you're looking for, you're unlikely to find it. Christianity does not make things EASIER.

The apostle Paul talks about some aspects of his Christian life that I doubt anybody would consider to be 'better' than what he had before (shipwrecks, snakebites, jailing, beatings, other persecution, etc.).

However, I will say that apart from hope, peace is another reason that I consider life better with God - peace with oneself, one's situation (no matter how good OR bad it is), and one's neighbours (no matter what they believe in).

And love, of course. The Bible teaches that God is love, the source of all true love, and that with His help we are enabled to love others and ourselves (despite knowing ourselves to be sinners and unworthy). To love is a tremendous gift.

Rom 15:13 And may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope through the power of the Holy Spirit.

Without God the only hope we have is in ourselves. People will always let us down because of our expectations (including those we have for ourselves).

Proverbs 29:18a Where there is no vision, the people perish

So, one thing leading to the other, no God=no hope.

EDIT: Atheists hopes will die with them, because they do not believe in an afterlife. My hope is in life eternal, not for anything here on earth. We all care for the human race, we all care for our families and friends, "good works" etc...but the hope we are talking about does not die when we die. Our hope lies in the life beyond.

Personally, if I didn't believe in God I would be a much bigger worrier than I am already. Believing in God helps me feel more at ease with myself and other people. It makes me feel good to know that someone understands exactly how and what I'm feeling. He makes me feel like there's a point and a reason for my life. I feel like I can share myself and try as hard as I can to make the world a better place. So for me, my belief in God has everything to do with how my life goes.

One promises what could be a happy ending. The other offers nothing. Plus..God hears our prayers. God can change things. God loves us. Gods rules (10 commandments) are good. The other says little or nothing about the above other than saying there is no such God that does these things or put such things in place. With one there is a future. The other offers a future of nothing.
