Priest blesses it - it's associated with The Lord, therefore since God is Holy, then the water is Holy. I think it symbolizes The Living Water from God - we will live forever.

The conept of Holy Water came from a Celtic legend of druid descent. The Catholics adopted it as a doctrine when they took over the area.

That's also how worshipping saints, worshipping Mary, and many Catholic holidays came about.

I've heard that it's gas... It's said that all the priests spend hours and hours gathered around filled fonts, all farting through soda straws to bubble gas into the water until it's thought to have enough gas pockets in it , "holes" if you will...

I used to really believe the "holy water" was holy.....now I don't know what "holy" means...do you? P.S. I was happier when I believed.
