Mall security (often they are off duty police officers making much more or the same as they do when on duty). Other times they are people that can hit a target with a pistol once in a while and have little to no training. Alternate derogatory names are: a joke, rent-a-cop, etc and resulted from the ineptitude of the non-police officers in their ranks.

I believe that the security guards that patrol the mall are called "security guards."

they are just called mall security if they work for the mall. during the holidays they do hire officers to work pay jobs there too... mostly just traffic duty.
i would say it would be a boring night job... it's all just driving around patroling the plot and making sure things are secure
but if you are looking for an easy night job that would work.
you might also look in to private security for apt/townhouse complexes... gated communities... business parks... construction sites... etc

They are called roving uniformed independent mall securing force or RUIMSF for short. The company formed in 1998.

Most of them are perfectly happy being called "security guards". I've supervised a few of them, however, who insist on being called security OFFICERS when addressed by the public. Those are the ones you need to worry about.

We refer to them as Loss Prevention Agents or LP for short

example in one police report.

Upon my arrival I contacted John Smith, Loss Prevention Agent for Sears, whom stated he had one juvenile detained for shoplifting.
