I've always loosely considered myself Atheist, but am revising that after hearing about Agnosticism ...

I'm not black and white in either direction ... (God or no God.)
I'm open and willing to consider all possibilities ...

just wondering, because I heard Atheism is where you are 100% there is NO God at all ... and I'm not that black and white about much.

so would I be considerd agnostic?

whoseafunnymoose, I'm sorta thinking along the same lines as you ... in terms of the whole 'all being pieces of a greater conciousness.'

and I don't find it boring at all!
quite fascinating ...

I don't believe being in between is a bad thing ...

you aren't as narrowminded as the rest, and you get to openly exprience the whole spectrum of possibilities!

I find it quite nice.

yes, Agnostic just means you aren't sure

from the looks of some of the replies a lot of people consider you fair game for conversion, something I am completely against, let people believe what they will, you can't force belief on anyone else or even yourself for that matter

I don't think that there is such a thing as an agnostic. You are either with religion or without. Sort of like being pregnant. You are or you are not. The word "atheist" can be broken down to be, "a" without, and "theist" religion. So if what you say is true, you are without religion therefore you are an atheist. I prefer another term to describe me though. And that is a follower of "humanism". If you are interested, here is what humanism is all about. Good luck. I know it can be confusing.

Humanism is a philosophy of life inspired by humanity and guided by reason. It provides the basis for a fulfilling and ethical life without religion.

Humanists make sense of the world using reason, experience and shared human values.
Humanists see no convincing evidence for gods, the supernatural, or life after death.
Humanists believe that moral values are properly founded on human empathy and scientific understanding.
Humanists believe we must live this life on the basis that it is the only life we'll have -- that, therefore, we must make the most of it for ourselves, each other, and our world.
Humanist philosophies have arisen separately in many different cultures over many thousands of years. Whether or not they use the term humanism, tens of millions of Americans and hundreds of millions of people around the world agree with the humanist philosophy of living a happy and productive life based on reason and compassion.

Yeah, I think you would be an agnostic. Allow me to just ask you a question. Why don't you want to worship God, or make Him a part of your life? I mean if you find out about who God is, the one true Christian God, the God in the Bible, you'll want to worship Him, because He is so wonderful. Yeah, maybe you can't prove anything, but TRUE Christianity (Christ likeness) is the only belief that can effectively be lived out in the world. Humanism relies on humans, we are naturally wicked and therefore any religion that requires us to make the rules will not be good. The best advice I can give you is to read the Bible, not because you believe it, just because then you can find out about God. Get to know who He is and then make your decision.

many atheists are not that kind of atheist either. do you think it's possible to know (either way) whether or not there's a god? if not i would say you're agnostic. on the other hand, do you believe in god and live your life as if it was real? if not then i would say you're an atheist. personally i think both terms apply to me. others will have different definitions of course and in the end terms don't define you - often they are just labels people put on you so they can more easily dismiss your opinions.

If you don't believe in a God, you are atheist. You don't have be certain that there is no God. You can simply say that based on what you know today, you don't believe in a God.

On the other hand, if you prefer to consider yourself an agnostic, that is ok too. Nothing wrong with agnostic.

In fact, you can be both agnostic and atheist. You can say you don't know if there is a God, and because you don't know if there is a God, you don't believe in a God.

Its all semantics, I call myself an atheist even though I know I can't disprove god any more than they can prove it. But I just believe agnosticism is a silly term. I mean were all agnostic towards santa claus or the giant spaghetti monster, you can't prove they dont exist right? But you just don't believe in them without proper reason.

I've never met anyone who was 100% sure about anything. I would think that the fact that you are open and willing to consider all possiblities is a very good place to start. I can't give you a label but will wish you the best as you discover the truth for yourself.

"Agnostic" is a label that human beings created. What you "are" or "are not" can only be defined by God, who created you. So, ironically, whether you believe in God or not, you were created in His image, and you can't change that.

As far as the semantics of the term "agnostic," I guess you could say it's an accurate label if you are unsure of what you believe. But remember, like I said, it's just a label. In order to know what our true Being is, we have to look to the Author of our Being -- and that's NOT our parents.

I'm a free-thinking agnostic because I "don't know" if there is a God or not and I like to believe in unconventional things like UFO's and angels and deep fried zucchini even though I haven't seen any in a while. LOL

I'm not qualified to say if there's a God or gods because I've never seen him and have never met anybody else who has. In fact, I think it's pretty safe to say ... NOBODY has seen Him!

But I DON'T think they throw us in a hole in the ground for worm fodder when we die either. Well .... we don't need our body anymore, that's true. But I don't think I am JUST my body. I THINK we belong to a mass consciousness. I could go into greater detail but I'd be boring most who don't feel the same as me. So, yeah! You could be agnostic! Welcome to the non-religion!

Agnosticism strikes me as the reasonable thing. Since the atheists cannot prove the non-existence of God and the theists cannot prove the existence of God, I let them battle it out.

I am content living in the question. I don't need an answer right now.
