You've answered your own question.
They also tend to read it with a closed mind, and skip over the parts that don't jibe with their beliefs.

I guess it depends on the verse. Are you quoting it correctly? Maybe it isn't just the verse that counts. Maybe the context of the verse needs to be considered. If a person is giving a speech against evolution and somewhere the person says "evolution is a good thing" but the next words they say is "if you want to believe in something that is untrue." If the second part of the statement isn't included, the persons meaning would have been altered and state just the opposite of what they believe. The whole story, the whole statement, needs to be quoted to contain the real meaning.

You can make the bible say anything you want if you take it out of context.
Psalm 14:1 OUT OF CONTEXT
There is no God.
Psalm 14:1 IN CONTEXT
The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good.
Only someone who is regenerated by the Holy Spirit can understand, for it is of no private interpretation, meaning without His help the verses can be twisted. This is why there are so many denominations, and so few true Christians.

Probably because you're taking the verse completely out of its context and giving it a meaning that the writer could not possibly have intended.
Other than that we're pretty good about letting folks interpret the Bible on their own. It's a foundational principle of the conservative/evangelical worldview; that is, that we don't need clergy to interpret the Bible for us.

They most likely haven't. I remember the day I realized that my Church was just a ridiculous waste of time.
I was raised Roman Catholic. I read the Bible cover to cover when I was 7. I then found out that was a no-no. Apparently most Catholics only know their Bible verses and stories from what the priest or nuns tell them.
My Sunday School teacher would get mad when I corrected her, or asked questions about certain parts.
I was a scientist from birth I guess. And there is no questioning in religion. That is when I decided that they were just making it up as they went along.
Religion is the world's greatest scam.

Well, I can't even go into your profile to look at questions you've asked, so I don't know. Could you maybe post some examples of what you're talking about? To the best of my recollection, I haven't answered any of your questions.
And yes, I have read the Bible quite a lot.

Are you making things up?
or
Are you quoting someone who's making things up?
If you are copying and pasting from a "skeptics site" then the verse text is likely altered to suit their argument.
If you are writing partial verses or skewing the verse context, then yeah, expect some flack.

It is because a non-chirstian will take passages out of context and use them as a sign that shows the Bible is nothing more then a good novel.
In other words, it is a good b*tch slap to christians.

Not sure. I have't come across one of your questions. Just remember, having a healthy questioning spirit is a good thing. Just balance it out with a healthy understanding. There will always be those who will oppose you. Even within the church.
