Apparently, almost all women believe it, and a lot of men believe it as well.
I don't believe the saying. People can change if they want to, but that needs to originate from within, not from an outside source. Nobody can change anyone else.
My fiance has cheated in past relationships, but (to the best of my knowledge) she has been completely faithful to me. I didn't do anything except be myself, and she realized on her own that it wasn't worth pushing boundaries with me because she knew that I wouldn't put up with it. I trust her, and I don't feel I need to worry about her. Without at least that, our relationship wouldn't have lasted two weeks, much less long enough to want to get married.
Every situation is different, and there's no rule that can be applied. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

Yes, I believe it. The cheater may do good for a while but eventually they will stray again. They are weak to temptation. It's best to cut your losses because the trust and respect is gone. How can you ever be truly happy again with a cheater? In the back of your mind you are always wondering and worrying.

Ya kno, I used to totally disagree with this saying because I'd really like to think that people can change for the better.... but that was before I saw my friends bf cheat on her [for the 2nd time] after he almost lost her the first time.
Sad, but true.

I don't think it holds true all the time, but once someone has cheated, and especially if they got away with it, I think the odds are fairly high that they will cheat again. Unless it was a one time mistake and they realized that it was a mistake.

It applies to some I am sure, and others are grateful for a second chance and stay clean.
I think it depends on how the reconciliation went.
