I have a worn 302 that needs freshend up. I need to know if I need to bore the block or if I could get by with a ring kit. I tore the motor down and I took some messurements. The stock bore is 4.000 and the most ware that I messured was a little less than 4.005. Most were about 4.002. I need to know what to do. Sure boring would be the sure thing to do but if i don't have to i can save a little over $200. Can anyone help!!!!

If your finger nail catches on the ridge, it needs boring. That's a rough rule, just remember not boring will eventually end in broke rings. Good luck.

If ya want it to last the thousands & thousands of miles that a good rebuild will Guarrentee, spend the $200. If you want'er to use a little oil & put out a tad of blue smoke, " save " the $200.

Since you are going to the expense of rebuilding the engine, why not go ahead and have it bored .010 over. then you will have a fresh engine when you get it back together. A little more HP too.
