My dog is holding her neck very tightly and wont look up when I stand above her. I dont think she got into anything as we have 3 other dogs both bigger & smaller and they are all fine. She also has yelped twice today when we tried to pick her up-and keeps pacing back and forth. She is a rat terrier and is normally a bit antsy but she never does the chihuahua type shake-and this shaking is only on the neck.I have been home all day and have no idea whats wrong with my girl.Any ideas?

You have been home all day and she has been like this? I hope that is not what you ment. You should take her to a vet. Obviously she is in some sort of pain. Why let her suffer? It could be something serious! Call the vet, there is nothing anyone can do for you here.

Sounds like she hurt her neck--a pinched nerve or injured disk. Muscle spasms from this can be severe. The vet will probably x-ray, give steroids and muscle relaxers. Just keep her quiet and comfortable until he sees her--no jumping!

put her in a crate and keep her quiet until they call you back. She might have pulled something, check her to see if anything is sticking in her, dogs run into stuff sometimes...
just keep her calm and quiet until they can advise you.
sorry to hear about her being like that, it must be kind of scary to watch.

I hope your girl will be okay. This may be late but... maybe she has something stuck in her throat. A piece of food or something like that. Try giving her a tiny piece of soft bread, it might help it go down.
I hope you've heard from the vet by now and she's okay.

Could she have been bitten by something? Or it could be a muscle strain. It sounds like she is in pain (the pacing).

Hope she is better soon.
