Will I be able to have internet access while I am deployed in a US Navy ship? Also will i be able to bring a laptop and use the internet with it?

My husband is in the Navy and is currently deployed. He has limited access to the internet. He can get onto mypay, navy fed and into a ship e-mail system only. He said it is super slow and it isn't always up. You won't be able to access the internet with you laptop, and honestly probably don't want to take it, stuff gets stolen. Like my husbands new video ipod, gone.

yes to the internet, yes to bringing a laptop, no to the laptop being connected to the internet.
Personal computers may NOT be hooked up to the ship's LAN/internet. there will be nonsecured PCs available for that.
Internet access can and will be disrupted for a bunch of reasons.. every time the ship makes a course correction, for instance.

Yes, you will have "limited access" to the internet, No, you will not be able to connect with a laptop. E-mail will be limited to an "on-ship" account only. AOL / Yahoo / Hotmail exc... are blocked from access.
Limited bandwidth is the key. It's like sharing a 56K line with 200 people. If you are lucky to get a carrier you will share 4 56k lines with 6000 people. I have had transfer rates as slow as 50bps (that's fifty) at times.

In port, pretty much always. At sea, some ships let everyone access the internet, on others the officers hoard it. It's about as fast as dial up, much slower at sea. And you cannot use you laptop to connect to a ship's internet.

Yes u will however IF you will actually be able to use it is another thing rank has its privileges therefore, if you are and e-3 and below ur sucking i suggest u get and ipod a dvd player instead or a low price laptop the internet on the boat is secure you can hack in to use it but you'll go to mas once they find you

internet is very limited and only allowed on the ships pc. you wont be permitted to link your laptop to it. all this is explained when you go aboard the very first day. internet is a satellite so it will be slow and at times it will be down and you will be sharing it with 5000 other people

Internet yes, unless you are in an area where there are no outside comms. Laptop, no. Personal equipment is not allowed on Military servers because it can compromise information security.

Yes they have internet on the ships. And Im quite certain they would have a wi fi system of some sort.
