Lets look at this question here seriously. Dating back to schools beginning here in the United States that is how kids learned to read. Look how our country flourished from those times til the 60's when God was taken out of our schools. Lets look at this great country now only 40 some odd years later. Were not flourishing like we were when God was being taught and his laws followed. Rather interesting if you really think about it. Have a great night. Peace out................

Absolutely not. After all, the Bible says that everyone HAS to believe it, and you can choose to not believe evolution. Teachers don't say you have to believe it, they just show you the evidence and you can believe what you want. Besides, if the Bible was taught in schools, that violates the First Amendment, which dictates that the government can't promote one religion over others. If you were to have a Bible class you would have to have a Jewish class, Muslim class, Hindu class, Buddhist class, Pagan class, Satanic class, Wiccan class, and many more. In fact it's pretty much impossible for the government to keep up with the number of religions in this country, let alone teach them all at public school. For one thing, there wouldn't be enough hours in the day.

In Australian state school there already is a 1 hr scripture class each week. My 10 year old daughter does not attend, along with about 30% of the school whose parents elect for their children not to be subjected to others beliefs. I don't think religion of any kind has a place within the education system because religion is about faith and school is for the benefit of fact-based studies. If parents feel that what their kids are already learning in church and at home also needs to be reinforced at school, then do it at the end of the school day or as the last lesson of the day, giving those that choose not to participate the option of leaving school an hour early - see how popular it is then!

Do you mean "allowed" or simply "offered". I think yes, such a class should be allowed, but I do not think it should be offered. In other words I agree that it is a legal act, but I personally think it is dangerous. A teacher can easily indoctrinate students rather then simply teach them academically. An academic teacher just explains things on the most elementary level, but an indoctrinating teacher actually presses you to accept one view or one fact above another.
For instance an academic teacher says, "The Republican party tends to favor state government over national government"
An indoctrinating teacher says, "The Republican party guarantees the rights of the states against the dangers and oppression of a national government"
Or even more, "The Republican party is better then any other"
Apply these same standards to religion, and yes, Evolution. An indoctrinating says, "There is irrefutable evidence for Evolution" but an academic teacher only says, "Here are some examples of the evidence for evolution"

I think if public schools want to offer a voluntary Bible class that teaches fact...then that is great. However, your pastor needs to understand that evolution is a fact. Not that we came from Apes...but that things do evolve to acclimate to their surroundings. That is not evil, that is fact. Many things have changed forms over the years.
But remember that teaching the Bible should include the old testament as well as the new...not just focusing on salvation. And it should never, never be a required course. I would never want my kids to take this at public school. Just imagine who might be teaching it and what sort of experience they might have in teaching this subject. Wouldn't you be best at letting your children learn this at home or at the church of your choice?

Nope. I get my Bible education on Sundays at church -- where I also thank the Lord that I live in a country where there is a separation of church and state, and that parents can send their kids to public schools knowing that the teachers won't try to indoctrinate them in one religion over another.

Only in High School as an elective. But otherwise I don't think it would work. I mean what "religion" are you going to teach. Some religions don't believe in the Bible, and you'd have to offer every type of religion.

No, because then those who do not believe the same way you do would be put down and made fun of, and possibly harrassed. I'm fine with letting kids read religious material based on their own religious values, but not someone else's. And unless my kid's going to a religious college I don't see where Bible study is going to help them because most colleges are still going along with theories of evolution.

Why are Christians all ways looking to push their religion on others? Not only no, but hell no. Teaching Christianity in a public school is not being culturally sensitive to other people's beliefs. As for not "believing" in evolution, I feel sorry for you for being so ignorant.

Have you heard of "separation of church and state"? Do you understand what it means? Religion is a fable, and fables have no place in schools. Would you allow us to teach scientific fact for an hour during your church services? At least science is proven fact.

Then let's teach one hour of th Koran, the Sutras, The Dharma.
Sheesh. Don't be so arrogant as to believe your religion deserves special attention.
Patriotism is the belief that your country is better because you were born in it.
Religion works the same way.
